David Knight Wins Oklahoma EnduroCross

  • David Knight Wins Oklahoma EnduroCross

Guthrie, OK. October 6, 2007. KTM’s David Knight came away from round two of the 2007 AMA/Maxxis National EnduroCross Series Triple Crown with not only the win and the series points lead…. but is now only one race away from winning the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute’s $50,000 Triple Crown Bonus.

A very vocal Oklahoma crowd was treated to what turned out to be a great battle between Knight and teammate Dave Pearson for the first three laps of the eight-lap main. Pearson was the aggressor as he shadowed Knight in every corner with Suzuki-mounted Damon Huffman running a close third and Monster Energy-Kawasaki Ricky Dietrich in fourth. Pearson actually got by Knight while going into the water section on lap two, but Knight was not having anything to do with second place and quickly recaptured the lead. Pearson made another attempt in the rock section half a lap later but lost the front end and went down. With the wind out of Pearson’s sails, Huffman pounced on the opportunity and quickly moved into the second spot. Huffman set out after Knight, but the former EnduroCross champion checked out and headed for the checkered flag. For the second week in a row Huffman was back on the podium, this time another tier higher than last week. Pearson was able to rebound from his miscue and collected the final podium position.

The victory is another step closer for Knight to win the Motorcycle Mechanic’s Institute’s $50,000 Triple Crown bonus - if he can win the final round in Las Vegas on November 17th. “Maxxis EnduroCross Championship is my main focus,” Knight later said. “I’d love to win the MMI Triple Crown too…but I want the EnduroCross title again. All the other stuff will fall into place after that.”

The final round of the AMA/Maxxis National EnduroCross Series takes place on November 17 inside the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, NV. At press time, there were still tickets available for the Las Vegas round – but an early sell-out is expected. You can purchase tickets online at www.endurocross.com
