Caselli Wins Hollister WORCS Race
Hollister, CA – Kurt Caselli put his KTM up front as he took home the win at the tenth round of the WORCS Series on Sunday at the Hollister Hills OHV Park.
Caselli has been a front runner all season with numerous podium finishes but was very excited to grab his second win. “I felt good this weekend,” reported Caselli who currently sits first in points. He continues, “I knew I had to get a good start here because the track was dusty and going through traffic would be a mess.” Although Caselli had a bad jump out of the gate he was able to power his way upfront cutting to the inside of the first turn moving his way up to into third right behind his teammate Justin Soulè and holeshot winner Richie Owens.
Soulè and Caselli stayed close on the first lap until Soulè lost control and crashed hard into a fence. Caselli pulled to the side to see if his teammate was okay and once given the go-ahead by Soulè he took off, now in the second position behind Owens. By the end of the first lap Owens had a 20 second lead on Caselli, but that lead would be short-lived as Caselli was powering forward.
On lap two, Caselli made the pass on Owens for the lead. Nathan Woods (second in series points) soon moved into second and stayed close to Caselli for the first ¾ of the race. “Woods was riding well, but I just found my pace and held my lead,” stated Caselli after the race. At the finish, a very happy Caselli crossed the checkers in first with over a minute lead on the second place of Woods. Soulè, who had recovered from his crash, managed to fight his way back into the top ten finishing 8th for the day.
With two rounds left, Caselli now has a 25 point lead on the competition. Round eleven of the WORCS Series will be held in Pismo Beach, CA on October 20-21, 2007. However, Caselli and Soulè will be competing sooner than that alongside teammates David Pearson and Quinn Cody as the four-member team competes in the 24 Hour Race at Glen Helen October 12-14, 2007.
