Monster Energy-Backed Team USA Wins ’07 MX Des Nations Title
Monster’s Ricky Carmichael (Suzuki), Tim Ferry (Monster/Kawasaki) & Ryan Villopoto (Monster/Pro Circuit/Kawi) dominate Moto Des Nats!
CORONA, Calif., (Sept. 25, 2007) – The Monster Energy-backed United States Motocross Des Nations team wrapped up a stellar weekend of racing yesterday at Budds Creek MX Park in Maryland, host of this year’s MX Des Nations – won by Monster Energy Team USA!
Monster Energy Team USA members, led by Monster’s own Ricky Carmichael (Suzuki), along with Tim Ferry (Monster Energy/Kawasaki) and Ryan Villopoto (Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki), swept all three Motocross Des Nations classes for an untouchable score of eight points (MX 1 class/Carmichael, MX2 class/Villopoto and Open class/ Ferry). The next closest nation to the Monster Energy/United States team was France, with 34 points.
“It’s a storybook ending to what looks like the most dominant season ever for a motocross sponsor,” said Monster spokesman Scott Sepkovic of Monster Energy’s 2007 sweep of every major pro American supercross and motocross title – and the now the most prestigious global MX title. “Monster athletes stole the show at the Des Nations at Budds Creek, branding the top of the MX world’s podium with the iconic Monster M-claw logo.”
Both Carmichael and Ferry were involved in pile ups early on in one of their motos, forcing the two veterans to come from behind to make up points to insure their overall class wins. Villopoto was absolutely dominant, going 1-1 for two points in the MX 2 class and winning the overall rider’s title.
Said Carmichael: “I’d like to first congratulate my teammates, Ryan and Timmy, and thank the fans that came out and packed Budds Creek this weekend. It was an outstanding event, I’m pumped we were able to defend our title and this was a great way for me to wrap up the 2007 summer motocross season.”.
In addition to Team USA, Monster Energy scored a podium finish – giving it six of nine total – with Grant Langston (South Africa) in 3rd in the second MX 1 class moto. Monster Energy/Team GPKR’s Sebastien Pourcel led France to its 2nd place finish with a 4-9 (13 points) effort in the MX 1 class.
Some 35 nations competed in the Budd Creek Motocross Des Nations, the 61st running of the event, which is arranged to see which nation can field the best three-man team
In the history of the Motocross Des Nations, Monster Energy/Team USA has won more than any other nation – a total of 18 times, including now being the two-time defending champions (Matterly Basin, UK, in
2006 and Budds Creek, USA, 2007).
