Tony Stewart Racing Rider Eric Saunders Red Hot
INDIANAPOLIS, IN (August 31, 2007) – Eric Saunders, the fifteen year-old motocross phenom from the Tony Stewart Racing stables, blistered the competition during a brutal six-week swing of summer events.
The young Hoosier hotshoe kicked off his ferocious summer swing at D&D Motorsports Park in nearby Rochester, IN, for the “Beat the Sun Down Series” and scorched the competition with a staggering twelve moto wins in a dozen starts. Saunders bested the field in both the 125cc youth class and the 14-24 year division.
“That strong performance at D&D set the bar high for our team for the remaining events but my combination with the Suzuki bikes, TORCO Race Fuel, Race Tech Suspension and the Kenda Millville Skicky’s were unmatched. In the 125cc youth class, we got the holeshot in half of our motos and assumed the lead by lap three in the remaining ones,” noted Saunders. “But in the 14-24 division, we were running against 450cc bikes but the new Suzuki RMZ250 was awesome and proved to be the bike to have in order to be out front this season. We rounded out the top-5 on starts but were able to rally against those bigger bikes for the wins so it was a great weekend overall since my boss Tony (Stewart) also picked up a win in Indy.”
In the mist of a hectic training series, Eric and his Tony Stewart Racing team ventured to the “Larry and Joyce Read Memorial Race” in Akron, IN, for another duo of 125cc youth and 14-24 year old divisional competition. Utilizing the extra track time to fine-tune the testing trials on his Suzuki/Race Tech Suspension mounts, Saunders still found his way to the front of the pack with a first place effort in the 125cc class and fourth place overall ranking on his RMZ250 against the A riders in the older bracket who were primarily preparing for Red Bud.
The hard working young pro completed his summer trifecta at the famed Michigan venue – Red Bud MX – for the “MechanixWear Madness” with a sweep of motos in both the 125cc youth and 250cc youth lites divisions. Eric not only launched his Bass Pro Shops/Tony Stewart Racing Suzuki horses to the front of the field but had a 40 second margin of victory in the second 125cc moto and 35 second MoV in the final 250cc moto.
“I can’t thank all of my sponsors enough for the opportunity,” Eric added. “I am grateful for their support and especially to Tony for helping me live my dream. With our current combination of Suzuki, TORCO Race Fuels, Race Tech Suspension, Motion Pro and Kenda Tires, we have shown how strong of a program we have and we’re looking forward to continuing those performances for the rest of the season.”
The Tony Stewart/Eric Saunders Racing MX Team will take the Labor Day weekend off from regular competition in order to continue some performance testing and will soon be back in action. For more information on Eric Saunders and his upcoming schedule, check out http://www.ericsaundersmx.com
