Inaugural AMA Pro ATV Open Invitational at Steel City

DELMONT, Pa. (August 20, 2007) – Pittsburgh area motocross fans will be treated to a spectacular motorsports event when the 20th Annual Monster Energy/Kawasaki Pro Motocross National at Steel City Raceway revs up on August 25-26 for Round 10 of the AMA Toyota Motocross Championship. For the first time ever, event organizers have added two new and exciting racing events to an already-exciting weekend: the AMA Pro ATV Open Invitational and the sixth and final round of the Women’s Motocross Association (WMA).
Steel City Raceway, which played host to its first ever AMA Pro ATV race last year, provides one of the best vantages points for spectators on this epic weekend. On Saturday, 20 of the world’s top ATV riders will battle it out for $10,000 with the winner taking home $5,000 and the AMA Pro ATV Open Championship No.1 plate. Joe Byrd, of Union City, Tenn., has been the dominant rider in AMA ATV Motocross with six wins and four additional podium finishes on the season, but his absence will leave the Delmont event up for grabs. Honda’s Jeremy Lawson, of Battletown, Ky., and Suzuki’s Dustin Wimmer, of Center Valley, Pa., who have three and two wins on the season, respectively.
The highly-decorated WMA is led by recently crowned Amateur National Champion Tarah Gieger, who used a pair of first place finishes and a second place finish to best long-time rival Jessica Patterson at Loretta Lynn’s. This Sunday match-up should be one of the weekend’s most exciting races at Steel City Raceway. The WMA is committed to providing the best quality women’s motocross events while creating opportunities for women in all areas of the sport.
Combining the three racing disciplines into one racing weekend should expand the event’s marketing outreach and hopefully attract new fans to each sport.
“This is a special weekend at Steel City Raceway,” said Carrie Coombs-Russell, of Racer Productions, promoter of the Steel City event. “We have aligned three unique genres of motocross racing on one of the most anticipated event weekends of the year. The synergy of this race weekend offers something for everyone.”
Racer Productions’ knowledgeable staff understands the importance of high-quality race conditions, and the weekend’s line-up of motos has been planned accordingly to ensure top-shelf terra firma throughout the weekend.
“We have also put a lot of thought into the schedule of events and the timing for both Saturday and Sunday as to protect the integrity of the track and the racing conditions. We will prepare a track that will provide the same great racing that the Steel City fans have come to expect from our event. There’s just going to more great racing this year.”
