MDK Honda’s David Vuillemin Breaks Down the Track

AURORA, Ill. (July 19, 2007) – The 2007 Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open today released the track designs for each night of racing inside Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena October 12-14. Unique tracks have been designed for Friday and Saturday night that will give riders and fans a new look for each program.

The newest addition to this year’s two tracks is the sand pit, which is a sweeping turn that consumes the entire end of the arena floor. More than 15 truckloads of sand will make up the 20’ wide sweeper turn.

MDK Honda’s David Vuillemin, who finished fourth at last year’s Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open, is excited about this year’s tracks.

“The biggest news is to see a sand section at the US Open,” said Vuillemin. ”The race will not be won there but can definitely be lost in the sand. A small lack of concentration could easily end up in a crash. The whoops getting in the stadium will be important too. We are going to get to them really fast and it's going to be good for the riders that aren't scared to let off. And finally, like every year the start will be 50% of the race.”

The start will be moved for Saturday night’s race and the track will run in the opposite direction as well.

“Changing the track from Friday to Saturday last year is a great idea and worked well last year, added Vuillemin. ”The way we take the starting line every lap with the big sand section looks really fun and fast. We are going to fly in the sand with our 450’s The rhythm section next to the whoops looks fun. I am thinking the combo will be 2-3-2. The landing of the finish line looks big.”
