  • Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open Celebrates 10 Years of Racing

AURORA, Ill. (June 19, 2007) – The Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open will celebrate its 10th anniversary this year when the world’s top riders line-up inside Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena October 12-14.

Over the years the U.S. Open has been played host to some of the greatest racing stories held in one of the most intimate racing venues in the world.

A Look Back at the Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open

1998: At the inaugural U.S. Open winner Damon Huffman shocked the world with a win over seven-time supercross champion Jeremy McGrath.

1999: Jeff Emig lost his job with Kawasaki, but won the U.S. Open as a privateer on a Yamaha.

2000: Ricky Carmichael’s win foreshadowed his reign of dominance in AMA Supercross.

2001: Carmichael became the first rider in U.S. Open history to win the event in consecutive years.

2002: Mike LaRocco scored his first major championship since 1994, upsetting Carmichael’s two-year win streak.

2003: Chad Reed put his name on the map, beating arch rival Carmichael.

2004: Reed backed his 2003 win and became only the second rider in history to score consecutive wins at the U.S. Open.

2005: Carmichael became the first rider to score three wins at the U.S. Open.

2006: James Stewart swept both nights of racing as Carmichael announced his agreement to race stock cars with Ginn Racing.

“In just 10 years the U.S. Open has established itself as one of the premier events in AMA Supercross/Motocross racing,” said Todd Jendro, senior director of supercross, Live Nation. “As we celebrate our 10-year anniversary, fans and racers alike will be treated to another top-shelf event. Keep a close eye on www.ussx.com for up-coming announcements and a walk down memory lane with 10 years of the U.S. Open.”
