  • Paul Carpenter Wins 2nd Round Of Canadian MX Nationals

New Yorker again tops the 450 class field on his Monster/Cernic’s/Kawasaki; teammate Jeff Gibson is 7th overall again

CORONA, Calif., (June 4, 2007) – Monster Energy/Cernic’s/Kawasaki’s Paul Carpenter backed up his opening round win on the Monster Energy/CMRC Canadian Nationals MX tour with another win, this time capture Round Two of the northern MX race series at Gopher Dunes in Courtland, Ontario.

With two MX1 class victories in as many Monster Energy Canadian MX Nationals rounds, Carpenter has established himself as the early odds-on favorite to unseat 2005 MX1 champion Jean Sebastien “JSR” Roy for the overall title this summer as defending champ Dusty Klatt is racing here in the States.

"I don't think anybody can say that I didn't earn the overall today," said Carpenter. "It was a tough race and I rode hard both motos."

Particularly fun for the fans in attendance was the battles between Carpenter and JSR as Carpenter would get the upper hand despite a first moto re-start that cost him his holeshot. Carpenter’s luck would catch back up with him as JSR ran out of gas late in the moto, giving the then 2nd place Carpenter the overall win in the first moto. The second moto was equally exciting, with multi-time Monster Energy Canadian Nationals champion JSR challenging Carpenter, but didn’t have enough for the Monster/Cernic’s/Kawasaki racer in the end. Final results: Carpenter 1-1 for the overall.

Noteworthy: Carptenter’s Monster Energy/Cernic’s/Kawasaki teammate, Jeff Gibson overcame some rough starts to place 7th overall.

Next up for Monster Energy/Cernic’s/Kawasaki’s Carpenter and Gibson is this weekend’s (June 17) Morden, Manitoba, round of the 2007 Monster Energy CMRC Canadian MX Nationals.
