Monster Energy-Backed Jason Lawrence Scores First Moto Podium Of The Year
Lawrence goes 3-6 for 5th overall in AMA Lites class at Monster Energy/Kawasaki High Point National; remains in 5th o/a in standings
CORONA, Calif., (May 29, 2007) – Monster Energy-backed Jason Lawrence (Yamaha of Troy) put up his first Outdoor National podium finish of the year on Sunday at High Point Raceway (Mt. Morris, Pa.), racing to a 3rd place finish at the Monster Energy/Kawasaki MX National at High Point, round two of the 2007 AMA Toyota Motocross Championship.
Poised to make the podium, Lawrence got off to a poor start in the second moto (17th after the first lap) and had to claw his way through a whole host of top riders just to get back into the top ten (6th overall) in the second moto, good enough for 5th overall on the day.
“My start in the second moto pretty much sucked and was the reason I didn’t make the overall podium,” said Lawrence. “My Yamaha YZ250F was flying all weekend. I passed guys in that second moto like they were on BMX bikes, ha,ha... My fault screwing up the start. But being on the podium in the first moto was sick! – I can get used to that. So it’s ON for Southwick.”
Lawrence, a New Jersey native, returns to the eastern rounds – namely Southwick and Budds Creek – the next several weeks. He’s currently in 5th overall in the Lites class points standings with 67 points, which is far better than the 16 points he had last year heading into Southwick.
Next up for the Monster Energy’s Lawrence is the June 10th Southwick National (Southwick, Mass.) at Motocross 338, Round Three of the 2007 AMA Toyota Motocross Championship.
