Monster Energy “Creature Feature” Pits Capes Vs. Thacker In Moto Grudge Match

  • Monster Energy “Creature Feature” Pits Capes Vs. Thacker In Moto Grudge Match
Monster Energy’s own world distance jumping record holders Ryan Capes (motorcycle) and Paul Thacker (snowmobile) have a score to settle Friday @ Hangtown during the Monster Energy MX Crossover Series opener

CORONA, Calif., (May 17, 2007) –  Monster Energy’s Ryan Capes (motorcycle) and Paul Thacker (snowmobile) share a common bond with their love for the sport of motocross. Both highly skilled A-class MX racers, the two also hold a title similar to what Monster Energy enjoys in the energy drink market: Nobody, but nobody goes bigger.

Tomorrow at Prairie City (Calif.) SVRA, aka “Hangtown,” Capes and Thacker will boot up for the opening round of the 2007 Monster Energy MX Crossover Series – a cutting edge motocross race showcasing a full gate of marquee names from all over the action sport spectrum. In what’s been dubbed the “Monster Creature Feature,” the two world-renown powersports daredevils will go at it to settle a score that’s been brewing for some time between the like Guinness Book of World Records entries: Who’s faster on a dirt bike?

“Anyone can ride a motorcycle. It takes a real man to ride a 500-pound snowmobile,” said Thacker, who’s mind-blowing 245-foot ramp-to-snow snowmobile jump in Minnesota this past February broke his previous world record of 238 feet. “It’s going to be tough to beat him (Capes) at his own game, but I’m sure he’s already underestimating my bike skills. So my plan is to catch him off guard.”

Obviously the more experienced of the two on dirt bikes, Capes – who was recently handed the reigning “King of all Motorcycle Jumpers” torch by Evel Knievel himself – intends to put the screws to his Monster buddy Thacker on the Hangtown track.

“Remember what Bubba did to Reed that one year on 125s at Unadilla? Waved him by and stuff, then chased him down and dogged him? That’s what I plan on doing to Thacker,” said Capes laughing. “I mean come on. He’s from Alaska of all places. I even have to bring him a bike to ride!

“And there’s no freakin’ way he’s beating me on my own bike.”

Noteworthy: Capes was the first motorcycle distance jumper to eclipse the magical 300-foot barrier, doing so on Oct. 29, 2005, in his home state of Washington.

The race-within-a-race “Monster Creature Feature” will be the first time that two world extreme powersports distance jumping record holders have squared off in a one-on-one MX grudge match surrounded by some of the world’s top extreme sports athletes (snowboarders, skateboarders, skiers, surfers, BMXers), along with select members of the media on bikes.

“Monster’s pumped to be featuring two of our premier athletes in this unique match up at the legendary Hangtown motocross track,” said John Lee, Action Sports Marketing Director for Monster Beverage Company. “And both Capes and Thacker will be on hand all weekend at the Monster VIP rig, hanging out, signing autographs and taking in the rest of the action at the MX Nationals opener.”

In addition to Thacker and Capes and the action sports athletes that will be racing the Monster Energy MX Crossover Series opener on Friday (May 18) at Hangtown, Monster Energy is also promoting it’s new supercharged premium coffee & cream through the inaugural Java Monster Media Throw Down, featuring many of your favorite editorial staff member from the industry’s top magazines and web sites. The Monster Energy VIP rig located in the pro pits will also host and autograph session with all the participating athletes signing special editions 2007 Monster Energy MX Crossover Series posters – free of charge!

Monster Energy supports the sport. Be it MX, supermoto, off-road, FMX, skate, MTB, off-road, surf, snow, BMX – name it – the athletes are rockin’ Monster Energy more than anything these days. Check out all the types – Original Monster Energy, Monster Lo-Carb, Monster Assault, Monster Khaos, the new Monster/fruit juice hybrid called “M-80” and the ground-breaking Java Monster premium coffee & cream supercharged with our Monster Energy blend. Ryan Capes, Paul Thacker and all the guys racing the 2007 Monster Energy MX Crossover Series featuring the Java Monster Media Throw Down are diggin’ ‘em – so will you.
