CORONA, Calif., (May 14, 2007) – Monster Energy, known throughout the action sports community for its involvement with all forms of adrenaline pumping sports at all levels, is bringing together an entire MX starting gate of some of the world’s foremost action sport athletes who all share a common passion – the sport of motocross.
This year Monster Energy, along with several other motocross industry (Dunlop, Throttle Jockey & Spy) and action sports industry sponsors (Sessions & Graphics Lab), in cooperation with the Dirt Diggers North Motorcycle Club, will host the sixth annual Monster Energy MX Crossover Series @ Hangtown, featuring the Java Monster Media Throw Down!
“NorCal and the Truckee/Tahoe area is a hotbed for action sports talent, particularly pro snowboarders and skiers, and quite a few of these guys also own dirt bikes,” said John Lee, Action Sports Marketing Director for Monster Beverage Company. “So with the help of the Dirt Diggers we’re putting on a special race on Friday for these guys, along with other core action sports athletes from all over the west coast that ride motocross. Should be a real good time for both the athletes and fans in attendance.”
Heading up the list of “crossover” racers will be Truckee’s own Aaron “AV” Vincent. A former member of the legendary H-Street skateboard team, AV made the transition to pro snowboarding back in the day and at one time had a hot-selling signature Sims pro model snowboard. Also lining up in the full gate will be a wide array of talent from the action sports community including last year’s Hangtown crossover podium of snowboarder Ian Price (1st), BMXer Aaron Cooke (2nd) and skier Gunnar Newquist (3rd).
“We always enjoy having these guys out to help kick off the opening round of the AMA Toyota Motocross Championship,” said John Konkle of the Dirt Diggers. “The Monster Energy MX Crossover Series athletes do a great job as ambassadors to the sport of motocross, always portraying our sport in a positive light wherever they may be - on a mountain, BMX track, surf line up, skateboard halfpipe – you name it. Hangtown and the Dirt Diggers look forward to showcasing these high-level athletes on our track next Friday.”
