Stewart, Townley Pick Up Wins and Continue Push Toward Championships

IRVING, TEXAS (March 31, 2007) – Monster Energy Kawasaki rider James Stewart captured the AMA Supercross victory while Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Ben Townley took the win in AMA Supercross Lites at Texas Stadium in front of 41,635 fans. Teammates Darcy Lange and Timmy Ferry capped off a successful evening, earning the second and third positions in their respective classes.

“It was a really tricky track tonight,” said Stewart. “It was all about trying not to make too many mistakes and hold on to the points lead. That’s all I was thinking about last night and all day out here. It’s all about the bigger picture.”

With the win, Stewart pushes his lead to 35 points in the Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series and will use the two off weeks to prepare for the next round in Detroit.

“I have a 35-point lead so that makes it a little bit more calming going into Detroit,” said Stewart, who also leads the World Supercross GP by 29 points with three rounds remaining. “All I have to do is get second at the next two races and the championship is mine.”

Ferry rode a solid race and rounded out the AMA Supercross podium with another third-place finish. He sits third in the AMA Supercross and World GP standings by 41 and 52 points, respectively.

“Last week I was disappointed in how I rode, but tonight I felt really good and strong,” said Ferry. “I had to be cautious, but I felt good. The track was really tough and I was happy to not be one of those guys who we ended up lapping that we shouldn’t have been lapping. The night could have gone either way for anyone.”

In Eastern Region AMA Supercross Lites, Townley captured his third win of the season and has closed to within three points of the lead with one round remaining.

“This is the biggest win for me so far,” said Townley, who has made a remarkable resurgence after failing to score a point in the season opener in Atlanta. “It’s been a long time since I felt like I did tonight, probably since the middle of 2005. This is huge, it’s like mission accomplished. After Atlanta, I didn’t think that I would have the chance to win the championship. Then in the past few weeks, I got two wins and I have been able to keep creeping closer and closer. Tonight, I knew if I could win, then I could be right back in there.”

Lange rode a remarkable race battling with Townley the entire 15-laps before crossing the finish line in the runner-up position. He gained valuable series points and sits just eight points out of the lead with a legitimate shot at the title.

Cernic’s Kawasaki rider Paul Carpenter rode to a strong eighth-place finish in the AMA Supercross division while teammate Jeff Gibson finished in 10th.

MotoSport Kawasaki’s Bobby Kiniry, after a crash that left him at the back, remounted his Kawasaki KX™250F and came back to grasp the 10th position. Teammate Matt Boni was close behind, finishing in 11th.

Tamer Kawasaki rider Jacob Marsack finished in 11th place and Fire Police’s Joe Oehlhof finished in the 12th position.
