Reed leads majority of Indianapolis supercross main event, settles for 2nd
CARLSBAD, Calif., (March 26, 2007) – Unbound Energy Drink-backed Chad Reed (San Manuel/Yamaha), the 2004 AMA Supercross Series champion, made it 12 consecutive podium finishes on the 2007 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series tour, this past Saturday night pulling the $1,500 Progressive Direct Holeshot and racing to a 2nd place overall finish at Indianapolis’ RCA Dome
The consistent effort allowed Reed to remain in 2nd place overall, still with a mathematical shot of the AMA Supercross class points leader James Stewart, 285-253, with four races remaining on the tour schedule.
“I felt awesome and had a great bike in the main,” said Reed. “But I was such a sissy in the lappers. I’m disappointed in myself. Pumped with the holeshot, yeah, but not about the end result.”
Reed opened the scoring with a two-and-half second win over friendly rival Tim Ferry in the first heat race. Reed also passed fellow former World GP champ Grant Langston en route to the heat class win.
In the main Reed again bolted out like lightning on this Yamaha YZ450F, scoring the holeshot and opening up a big lead over rival Stewart, who got held up at the start. Reed would lead the contest through lap 13 (of 20), only to relinquish it to the eventual winner Stewart.
Noteworthy: Reed’s Unbound Energy-backed teammate Nathan Ramsey suffered an injury three weeks ago during practice that has him on the sidelines indefinitely.
Next up for Unbound Energy’s Reed is Round 13 of the 2007 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series at Dallas’ Texas Stadium (March 31st).
