  • Good Showing For Monster Energy At GNCC
Fred Andrews Racing team places well at Georgia round

CARLSBAD, Calif., (March 12, 2007) –  The Monster Energy FAR (Fred Andrews Racing) Pro Circuit Kawasaki Off-Road Team came away from the Washington, Ga., round (aka “The General”) of Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Racing Series with three of its four team members placing in the top ten of the XC1 and XC2 classes this past weekend.

Beginning with the premier XC1 class, Monster Energy-backed Jesse Robinson scored another top ten finish overall, coming in 8th against some of the world’s top off-road cross country racers. Racing a Kawasaki KX250 two-stroke, Robinson pulled a mid-pack start, overcame a crash and had to play catch up the rest of the race to make the top ten.

“I had higher intentions of a stronger finish, but I got some arm pump after the crash and had to get my bars and levers adjusted – which cost me some time,” said Robinson. “Outside that it was a pretty good day of racing.”

In the XC2 class Monster Energy had two riders in the top ten – three in the top 11 overall. Scott Watkins overcame a horrible start to battle all the way back through the pack to lead the Monster Energy racers with a 5th place overall finish. Right behind Watkins was his teammate PA Allen, finishing 6th overall after crashing head first into a tree and racing the rest of the day with a heck of a headache.

“Scotty started at the very end of his class, but was able to battle through the pace to a solid 5th place finish,” said Andrews. “The Georgia track was difficult to pass on and it took all Scotty could do to get through those guys.” Noteworthy: Watkins was still nursing an injury suffered the at the previous GNCC round in Florida.

Rounding out the top 11 on his KX250F was Cole Calkins. With a great start and coming by the pits after the first lap in 4th place overall, Calkins was poised to make a run at the podium. However, with badly blistered and bleeding hands (the result of the first round in Florida), Calkins had to back it off a few clicks but was able to preserve an 11th place finish.

Also noteworthy: Monster Energy/Kawasaki Team Green amateur racer Andrew Matusek captured the overall win in the Four-Stroke A Lites class at The General.

Next up for the Monster Energy FAR Pro Circuit Kawasaki Off-Road the FMF Steel Creek race in Morganton, N.C. (March 24-25).
