Monster Energy’s Carmichael Back On Podium @ Phoenix

  • Monster Energy’s Carmichael Back On Podium @ Phoenix
Carmichael pulls the holeshot in the re-start of the red-flagged main event and battles rival James Stewart (Monster/Kawasaki) in great race

CARLSBAD, Calif., (Jan. 15, 2007) – After a rare red-flagged main event due to a crash, Monster Energy-backed Ricky Carmichael (Makita/Suzuki) pulled the holeshot in the re-start and led the Phoenix round of the 2007 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series, only to have another Monster Energy-backed racer, James Stewart, catch him and race to the eventual win.

Still, Carmichael was able to distance himself from a field of the world’s best supercross racers to finish second overall..

“We (RC & Stewart) had an awesome battle going, but he was just ruining me in that corner after the whoops,” said Carmichael. “I was happy to get out of here safe after doing my best.”

Referring to Stewart’s pass on him in the middle of lap eight, Carmichael and Stewart were taking two decidedly different lines through the whoop section. With virtually identical speed entering the whoops, Stewart was able to get a huge jump heading into the corner and the end whoop section and would eventually use that spot to set Carmichael up and pass him – though RC had Stewart covered on the remainder of the track up to that point.

The Phoenix event began with Carmichael setting a message to the rest of the field early, making the main event by virtue of a dominant performance in heat race No. 2. There Carmichael pulled the holeshot and never looked back, running away with a convincing win.

Carmichael’s Monster Energy-backed teammate Ivan Tedesco, still on the mend from an injured hand, finished a solid 7th on the evening in the premier AMA Supercross class. Tedesco’s evening was highlighted by a late race pass on supercross great Kevin Windham.

Carmichael returns to action Jan. 27th for the Round Four of the Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series at Phoenix’s Bank One Ballpark For more information on that event link to www.supercross.cc.com. RC’s teammate Ivan Tedesco is scheduled to be back in action this weekend (Jan. 20th) for the second installment of the Anaheim trilogy.
