In the first moto, Patterson secured first place, with Gieger taking second and Leah Cantrell third.
The second moto saw Gieger in first place with Patterson in second and defending Loretta Lynn champion and etnies Girl teammate Sarah Whitmore securing third place in her first race back from a dislocated shoulder.
In the third and final moto, Gieger quickly secured the first place position. Combined with her second place finish in the first moto and first place finish in the second moto, she was set up for the overall win; however, with two laps remaining, drama ensued as Patterson passed Gieger and held on to first place almost to the end. Unwilling to give up the title, Gieger fought back into first place coming down to the finish line, giving her the win and the overall championship. Congratulations, Tarah! etnies Girl would also like to congratulate Whitmore for placing fourth overall.
Catch Gieger and Whitmore at the WMA round five at Broome-Tioga in Binghamton, N.Y., Aug. 18-19, and round six at Steel City Raceway in Delmont, Penn., Sept. 1-2.
