CARLSBAD, Calif., (Aug. 8, 2006) – Monster Energy athletes had a
solid showing at this past week’s/weekend’s 12th annual ESPN Summer X Games, scoring a variety of medals in events across the board at the popular Olympics-like action sports competition festival.
Leading the way for Monster Energy were for sure the motorcycle
athletes. Both Adam Jones (FMX) and Mark Burkhart (SuperMoto)
captured silver medals with fine performances in their respective
events, while Doug Henry also made it to the podium with a bronze in
SuperMoto.
On the skateboard side of the competition, vert expert Jake Brown
finally broke through with a well-deserved medal, scoring a silver in
the hotly contested skateboard Big Air competition on the Mega Ramp. Brown’s mute grab backside 360 over the 70-foot gap was second only to Mega Ramp pioneer Danny Way’s back flip rocket air.
“On behalf of all the Monster Energy-backed athletes running the claw “M” logo I’d like to thank Monster for helping us get to the X Games this summer,” said Brown. “Any time you can pull a medal out of this event is huge. It’s action sports’ Olympics and Monster was
definitely a big part of the vibe with the athletes and fans this past week.”
Rounding out the medals this past week was newly acquired Monster Energy athlete Ken Block. Competing in his first X Games, Block won the silver medal in the inaugural X Games Rally Car event.
