Morning Report
Good morning race fans! Coming to you live from a foggy High Point Raceway in Mt. Morris, Pennsylvania, as we are set for the 47th High Point National. This will be round four of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship and our first East Coast race of the summer. The “Country Club of Motocross” welcomes all families and motocross enthusiasts here for Father’s Day weekend in what we expect to be ideal conditions.
High Point Raceway is one of the tougher tracks to navigate on the Pro Motocross circuit as the off-camber turns and hills are all lined from left to right with long, deep ruts. Pushing down the hills but still nailing the turns will be key for the riders on a track that can easily bite when least expected. There are no changes to the track layout from the 2023 version. As for weather today, we are expecting ideal conditions: sun with a high of about 80° Fahrenheit although with humidity around 75 percent.
In terms of the championship, Hunter Lawrence (Honda) enters in the 450 Class lead after taking his first 450 moto win and third straight second-place overall last weekend in Colorado. The #96 has a six-point lead over Chase Sexton (KTM) and a 16-point lead over his brother Jett Lawrence (Honda). Remember, this is where Hunter Lawrence earned the first Pro Motocross moto win of his career back in 2019 (he finished 1-3 for second overall in the 250 Class that day). We have quite a three-way battle brewing between the Lawrences and Sexton.
In the 250 Class, Haiden Deegan has taken four wins in the first six motos—and all three overall wins—as he is starting to take command of the championship. A wrist injury hindered his Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship 250SX East Region season, but the second-generation rider is now at full strength and full stride in his second full Pro Motocross season and put on a very strong start to the summer out west. Tom Vialle, Chance Hymas, Levi Kitchen, Jo Shimoda, and the rest of the 250 Class field are hoping to swing some points their way.
Today is going to be a significant day in both classes as we have a weekend off before the June 29 Southwick National. Leaving with momentum and confidence will be key heading into the first break off of the summer.
Qualifying will start at 8 a.m. local time (Eastern).

First Qualifying Sessions
250 Class
After the fog faded away, riders took to the track. On Friday afternoon/evening there was a rainstorm that lasted a few hours and changed the track conditions significantly from how it was for Friday's amateur racing. The track was muddy, and even more tricky than normal. There were lots of tip overs in spots where you don’t normally see them.
Haiden Deegan topped the first 250 A qualifying session with a 2:24.178 over Chance Hymas' 2:24.370 and Tom Vialle's 2:24.756.

450 Class
In the first 450 Class group A qualifying session, Justin Barcia led the field for most of the session until Jett and Hunter Lawrence both put down heaters late to move into the top two spots. Christian Craig was fourth-fastest as Chase Sexton rounded out the top five. Aaron Plessinger was 12th in the session.
Second Qualifying Sessions
250 Class
After the practice starts, the field got going again for their second qualifying session. The track got worked in some, but it was still rather tricky after yesterday’s rain. Hopefully the sun will dry out the circuit some for better conditions come the motos. Levi Kitchen led the field around, but it was his Kawasaki teammate Ty Masterpool who topped the session with a 2:24.590. Haiden Deegan was second fastest in the session with a 2:25.302, but his time was taken away for failing the AMA’s post-session sound test. Still, Deegan’s time from the first session was the top overall 250 Class time. Something to watch in today's LCQ: Evan Ferry qualified 37th and will have to get fop four in order to make today's motos.
450 Class
Jett Lawrence and Chase Sexton battled for the top spot, which eventually went to the #1 Honda HRC machine, as he found two seconds on Sexton (a 2:22.029 compared to Sexton's 2:24.138). Jason Anderson, Shane McElrath, and Aaron Plessinger rounded out the top five. Championship leader Hunter Lawrence was eighth in the session and qualified fourth overall. The big thing to note in the session was when Sexton pulled the trigger on the tunnel jump into the rollers (called the Carmichael Double). But Sexton landed on the back of Justin Rodbell, who was rolling the section. Both riders went down, but appeared to be uninjured in the crash. Top five overall in 450 qualifying were Jett Lawrence, Sexton, Anderson, Hunter Lawrence, and McElrath.
First Motos
250 Class
Following a classy opening ceremonies featuring local Greene County and Pennsylvania state officials, sponsors, and a sight lap from the WMX riders, it was time to go racing. The gates dropped and it was Nick Romano, Ryder DiFrancesco, Ty Masterpool, Chance Hymas, and Jo Shimoda out front. Hymas got into the race lead and started to take off ahead of Shimoda and Masterpool. But then Masterpool made a pass for the race lead, and he started to check out! Championship leader Haiden Deegan was buried early on, outside the top ten. However, the #38 machine got to work. He would eventually get into the top five, then would make a pass into third after getting by Hymas. Then as they were able to take the two-lap board, Deegan sent the big downhill prior to the finish line! The send put him into the lead. Masterpool tried to fight back on the final lap, but it was too little too late. A mistake in the bottom turn before the finish line gave Deegan the breathing room he needed to take the race win. It was an impressive ride through the field for the #38 machine. Although he came up short, it was a great ride by Masterpool, leading eight straight laps in the middle of the moto.

450 Class
Following an exciting first 250 Class moto, the Lawrence brother duo was out front when the gates dropped on the first 450 Class moto! Hunter led Jett Lawrence ahead of Justin Cooper, right there the trio left off last weekend in Colorado. Dylan Ferrandis battled Cooper, but they were both passed by Chase Sexton. The Lawrence brothers blasted away out front, with Hunter leading until a slip up in the inside of turn two allowed Jettson to take over the lead. Hunter would stay right on his brother's rear wheel for the rest of the race as they gapped the field significantly. Cooper bested Ferrandis to move into fourth as the rest of the top ten was spaced out. Hunter was close to Jett a few times but not close enough for a pass attempt. Jett took the win by just 0.724 seconds, but Sexton was 37.259 seconds behind. Cooper came through next ahead of Aaron Plessinger, who charged to a strong top-five finish.

Second Motos
250 Class
The second 250 Class moto began, and it was Mark Fineis leading as three Muc-Off/FXR/ClubMX Yamaha machines were in the top five! Daxton Bennick went down in the first turn and was dead last as he remounted without a visor. Haiden Deegan was outside the top five as he went down in a turn on the opening lap but got out and started charging. Tom Vialle got into the race lead, but Fineis got back into the race lead after a tip over from Vialle. Then Fineis made a mistake and went down after the wall turn down the starting straight! Fineis took a few seconds to go get going again. But then about half a lap later he came into the mechanics' area and his moto was done. When he high sided it damaged his radiator, so he was forced to pull off. Bummer deal as he was not going to roll over easily there! Hymas with a mistake that handed Masterpool the race lead. Masterpool was able to hold off Deegan by just 0.387 seconds to take not only his first career Pro Motocross moto win, but his first career overall win, and the 300th team win for Mitch Payton's Pro Circuit squad in either AMA Supercross or Motocross! What a day for Masterpool.

450 Class
After a wild second 250 Class moto, it was time for the final moto of the day. The 450 Class second moto dropped the gate and it was Jason Anderson with the early lead. The #21 machine was hounded by Jett Lawrence, Chase Sexton, and Hunter Lawrence. The #1 went for a pass in the far section of the track and Anderson took him wide, handing the lead right to Sexton as Anderson went from first to third in a few laps. The younger Lawrence and Sexton battled back and forth, with Sexton eventually taking the lead. A crash cost Sexton the lead and then another crash cost him time on Jett and gave the Honda HRC rider breathing room to take the race win and the overall.
