On Friday night, around 8:00 p.m. local time, the BTOSports.com-WPS-KTM rig caught fire in the pits of the Unadilla National. Luckily, no team members were in the trailer at the time and no one was injured.
The fire was eventually contained, but the inside of the rig suffered extensive smoke damage. The team’s bike, tools, parts and the rider’s gear bag also suffered damage.
With help from Red Bull KTM, Rockstar Energy Racing Husqvarna and Troy Lee Designs KTM, the team was able to pull enough spare parts together and rebuild bikes for team members Justin Brayton, Benny Bloss and Andrew Short. The team pitted out of the Red Bull KTM rig on Saturday, and all three members of the team competed in the 450 Class.
NBC Sports Network pit reporter Georgia Albertson caught up with team owner Forrest Butler yesterday to talk about the fire.
