AX Friday, SX Saturday: Atlanta Hosts Motofest
Atlanta's Georgia Dome has become one of the most popular venues in Monster Energy Supercross, but this is slated to be the 25th—and also final—year of SX racing in the building. (Don't worry, there's a new stadium coming to Atlanta so supercross will merely move next door for 2018.) To mark both the silver anniversary of the event and also the last in the Dome, Feld Motor Sports is pulling out all the stops this year with the first-ever Motofest.
Essentially, the regular supercross weekend (Saturday racing) will be joined by the AMSOIL Arenacross Championship, which will compete on a shortened version of the Atlanta SX track on Friday night. The AX event also includes the regular AX Track Party, which lets fans come down to the track on Friday evening and meet the races and see the track up close. That's something even supercross doesn't offer.
After Friday's round of AMSOIL Arenacross comes round eight of Monster Energy Supercross on Saturday. But wait there's more! Arenacross will host its typical Sunday amateur day, bringing back the shortened track from Friday. The folks at Feld Motor Sports have warned us that gate spots might sell out for this one, so early entry is encouraged. Finally, Ricky Carmichael will host one of his RC University Schools on Monday. In all, that makes for four days of dirt bikes under the Georgia Dome roof. Motofest!
Icing on the cake? We hear Damon Bradshaw, winner of the first Georgia Dome Supercross back in 1993, is expected to be on hand, as well as many other past stars of the ATL SX.
It kicks off on Friday, February 24. Go here for more.
