Ping,

What every happened to Brandon Mays? I only ever followed him close enough to realize that he was a real threat in the A division of amateur racing. It seems to me that he is certainly old enough to be a pro and it looks like he is plenty fast enough. Does it come down to him not wanting to turn pro, for whatever reason? Or is "B-Mayzee" selling enough records lately to pay the bills?

Zak

Syracuse, NY

Zak,

I don't follow amateur racing closely enough to fully understand Brandon Mays potential. However, I have heard that he was quick and looked to have a shot at racing professionally. But why would you want to race bikes when could be in the lab with a pen and a pad dropping' dope beats, yo? Word to yo moms, I came to drop bombs; you hear me, son? B Mayzee is on-point and cranking' joints all day like every day. I'm sure he's on a boat like T Pain by now and before long we'll see him with a gold grill humping a mermaid on a luxury yacht. Don't hate … appreciate. Besides, honestly, he had about the same odds of making a living racing motocross as he did being the next Vanilla Ice.

PING

"Hey, is that B Mayzee??"

Ping,

Hey man, big fan of all you do; always funny!!  My questions is how did Chad Reed finish in 12th. I’m not knocking him, I know that injury hurts, I’m in rehab right now from AC reconstruction, so please don’t get me wrong. But he didn’t cross the finish line and still posted a 12th. Was it that 1st place passed up to 13th?

Thanks,

Wesley

Virginia Beach

"Try staring at that abomination and see if your eyes don't water."

Wesley,

Results like that can throw people but if you look at the lap charts you will see that the leaders lapped all the way up to that position. So, even though he didn't complete the last lap he was in a higher position than the rider in thirteenth spot when he finished his 19th lap. Chad's crash was definitely an ugly one; I'd rather stare at Bob Costas' oozing, infected eyes during the entire Olympic Games broadcast than watch a replay of Reedy hitting the ground one more time. It literally made me cringe when I saw it. Sorry to hear about your knee … those aren't fun. I've had three ACL reconstructions over the years so now when I bend down to tie my shoes my rebuilt joints pop like someone furiously stomping on a strip of bubble wrap. So, you know, you have that to look forward to.

PING

Ping,

I have noticed in Supercross the amount of Lappers and the slower speeds these guys are going is becoming a safety concern. Any thoughts about black flagging guys if they can't maintain the pace? It would definitely help the top 10 actually race and not worry about needless crashes with way too slow Lappers. Maybe after 10 laps or so? Chad Reed, Dungey,Stewart are clearly going much faster and racing for valuable points.

Thanks,

 A concerned Supercross fan

"Legend has it if a lapper gets in Chad's way Ellie will show up at his house later and bludgeon him with a didgeridoo. True story."

Concerned,

The lapped riders who should be black flagged are the ones who are just cruising around for 20 laps. They aren't racing for any position and they have a tendency to be in the way when a faster rider approaches them. I think if you go two laps down you need to be pulled off and scored accordingly. The problem is the leaders typically make their way back inside the top ten and lap guys who are genuinely riding their hearts out and fighting for points and position. These are the battles where we have guys getting in the way and affecting the outcome of the races. But you can't black flag the guys in 7th, 8th and 9th place because the leaders lap them; that isn't fair and we would end up with six guys on the track by the end of the race. Even though most fans are only watching the top five or six guys on any given weekend you can't eliminate that much of the field. I don't know if Feld/AMA would ever implement something like this so you really have to hope the lapped riders are paying attention and move out of the racing line for the lead group.
