2012 GNCC National Numbers Released
2012 National numbers announced for all seven GNCC divisions
Morgantown, W. Va.- Racer Productions, producers of the Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series, announces today the 2012 GNCC National number list. GNCC numbers are earned based on overall finishes in one of seven divisions within the series - including Youth, Amateur and Professional ranks in both motorcycle and ATV disciplines, together with UTV Side-by-Side racing.
FMF/KTM's Charlie Mullins earned the GNCC number one plate after fending off two past-GNCC champions and several up-and-coming off-road racing stars, while Rockstar Makita Suzuki's Chris Borich claimed the number one plate for the third consecutive year in the ATV afternoon division. Team Polaris National Guard/Coastal Drilling/Yokely Racing earned the number one plate in UTV racing over some of the fastest Side-by-Side racers in the country.
Master's (50+) champion Dave Simmons earned the National number 201 for next season, while Master's (50+) bike champion Randall Riggs also earned the National number 201 in the morning bike race. While National number 201 seems high, it's actually the highest honor in the morning class, as numbers one through 200 are reserved for afternoon racers and special conditions - such as visiting champions.
In the Youth racing division, Super Mini (12-13) bike champion Austin Lee earned the number one Youth bike plate for 2012 and 90 Open (8-11) champion Hunter Hart earned the number one Youth ATV plate and a piece of GNCC Racing history as the youngest Youth champion at only eleven years old.
Amateur and Youth racers must compete in at least nine GNCC events in order to earn a National number the following season. UTV teams must compete in four of the six events to earn a National number and the top 20 overall numbers in both afternoon classes (ATV and bikes) are based on overall points, regardless of the number of events entered.
The 2011 GNCC Champions and top ten class finishers will be honored at this year's GNCC Awards Banquet December 2 and 3 in Morgantown, W. Va. at the Waterfront Place Hotel and Convention Center. The top 10 ATV/UTV racers in each class will receive awards on Friday, December 2 and the bikes will celebrate on Saturday, December 3.
