ImPACT Concussion Management Testing Available
In continuing with its philosophy of bringing real sports medicine services to the public, iCHOR Sports Medicine becomes the first to offer ImPACT Concussion Testing in the Temecula/Murrieta area.
ImPACT Concussion Management testing aids sports medicine professionals with the diagnosis and management of head injuries and concussions.
ImPACT is the most widely used computer-based testing program in the world. The program provides a user-friendly injury documentation system that facilitates the tracking of the injury from the field through the recovery process. ImPACT is currently being used by all NHL, NFL, MLB, and MLS teams. The test takes 20 minutes and measures the patient’s attention, verbal and visual memory, processing speed and reaction time with a series of activities involving words, numbers, colors and shapes. ImPACT provides objective information regarding the athlete’s readiness to return to the playing field following a concussion.
Ideally, athletes should be pre-tested before the sports season begins; however, pre-testing is not required to determine the effects of a concussion on an athlete.
"The ImPACT test has been on the list of programs we wanted to offer here at iCHOR Sports Medicine for some time, after listening to Dr. Lovell Director of the Concussion Program at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center speak at the Motocross of Nations Medical Symposium I knew we had to pull the trigger and make it happen," states Eddie Casillas, Director of Sports Medicine and Owner of iCHOR Sports Medicine "I have seen first hand what happens when athletes fail to properly manage these types of injuries and we want to change that."
The ImPACT test is not only for professional athletes, but anyone who participates in an activity that is susceptible to concussions or what some might refer to as "a ding" or "ringing of ones bell" i.e. snowboarding, skateboarding, dirt jumping, BMX, mountain biking, and surfing.
