Morning Report
After very little change to the racetrack for round 14 of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross championship, the Dirt Wurx crew went to work between Wednesday and today to deliver us an all new racetrack. With conditions today hovering around the 70-degree mark with moderate to low humidity, it’s a perfect day for racing.
The night show will begin at the exact same time as Wednesday, which will be 7 p.m. EDT/4 p.m. PDT. Fortunately for the riders, there will be no jumps going towards the sun in the late afternoon so look for vision to be a little bit better.
Eli Tomac enters 27-points clear of new second-place man Cooper Webb as he works to maintain a points gap of that margin to potentially wrap up the title on Wednesday. Webb will be looking for his fourth win of 2020 to keep the title chase alive until the end.
Ken Roczen has drifted back to third in the standings and was diagnosed with Shingles this week as well. The Honda HRC rider will continue an uphill fight with his health as he looks to overcome and battle for all 20 minutes of today’s main event. Jason Anderson and Justin Barcia round out the top five behind him. Anderson has leapfrogged Barcia in the points after Barcia’s huge crash on Wednesday. Just four points remain between them so look for a close fight down the stretch.

The 250SX West division sees just 10 points between leader Dylan Ferrandis and new second-place man Austin Forkner. Justin Cooper sits just one point back of Forkner leading the three of them to battle it out with just today’s action and next Sunday’s East/West Showdown still to run.
Brandon Hartranft and Alex Martin sit behind them inside of the top five in points but between them and further back to Michael Mosiman in sixth, a large points tally split them up. Watchful eyes lay upon riders like Christian Craig and Jett Lawrence who both look to rebound after falls in Wednesday night’s main event.

First Practices
250 B Group:
Chase Felong topped the first session of the day as he was the only rider to eclipse the 53-second mark.
250 A Group:
Christian Craig gets the jump on everyone today as he's the first man to lead free practice outright with nearly half a second between himself and defending 250SX West Region Champion Dylan Ferrandis.
450 A Group:
Jason Anderson continues his hot streak in practice and qualifying with yet another session spent at the top of the board.
450 B Group:
Jake Hogan suffered a big crash in this session which resulted in a pause for a red flag. It appeared Carlen Gardner would top the session thanks to a late lap time, but Alex Ray's final lap jumped to the top of the board. Ryan Breence also slotted in late, just ahead of HEP Suzuki teammate Adam Enticknap.
First Timed Practices
Dylan Ferrandis jumped out front early in this session over Cameron Mcadoo and Austin Forkner. Then the GEICO Honda teammates of Christian Craig and Jett Lawrence moved to second and third, and soon Jett’s brother Hunter was fourth. On the sixth lap, Austin Forkner jumped into second, with Ferrandis’ time still holding strong. Jett Lawrence jumped to second late, but Ferrandis’ time from five laps earlier still held.

Eli Tomac grabbed the early top time here ahead of Cooper Webb and Ken Roczen. Then Tomac topped his own time, to stay ahead of Roczen who jumped up to second. Then the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna gang added to their recent run of fast qualifying runs, with Jason Anderson and Dean Wilson going to second and third, with Tomac’s time from lap 6 holding at the top. Benny Bloss impressed with a lap time good enough for fifth in most of the session. Finally, very late, someone broke the Tomac time at the top, and it was Wilson, who clocked the top time.

SECOND TIMES PRACTICES
The never-ending debacle of start practices in qualifying almost put Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki teammates Austin Forkner and Cameron Mcadoo down in the first turn as they got into a drag race from one side of the stadium to the other. Christian Craig also had a tip over early in the session, but he was fine and got right back up.
Jett Lawrence topped the time sheets early as Ferrandis and Craig both laid down heaters behind him. Lawrence’s time was not quite enough to top the 43.890 from Ferrandis in the first session and the track continued to get slicker as the session went on leaving Lawrence’s early time as the top time from the session. That means Ferrandis ends up as the fastest overall qualifier for the day with his first session time.
Chase Felong led home the B qualifying session again as he just tipped Chris Howell for the fastest time.

The second 450SX qualifying session saw Cooper Webb laying down the early pace with a 44.161 which was still about three tenths of a second off the first session top time from Dean Wilson. Eli Tomac was the first to better his first session time as he went to the top of the board with a 43.864.
Webb had a small tip-over about halfway through the session, but he was able to remount quickly. Benny Bloss surprised everyone by laying down the fastest time overall with about four minutes left to go in the session at a 43.704.
Jason Anderson gave his best shot at the top time by putting in a 43.788 before Eli Tomac would finally knock Bloss off the top with a 43.557. That time left Tomac fastest overall on the day.

250SX Heat 1
In the first gate drop of the night it was Austin Forkner with the holeshot after he drove it in deep and took down Jett Lawrence but then Forkner fell right after that. That gave Justin Cooper a huge lead at the front of the field as Forkner had to go to work on catching up into transfer spots.
The fall from Forkner was caused by Hunter Lawrence getting a bit sideways in front of him coming out of the first turn and then Forkner ran into the back of him and fell. As Forkner began charging through the field after the crash, he caught up to Jett Lawrence who he took out in the first turn and the battle was on. Lawrence pushed him wide before the finish line jump and passed him back.
Forkner eventually made the move back around him and the battle for fifth spot was finally settled as they both were comfortably in transfer. Cooper still held the lead from Alex Martin and Hunter Lawrence with Luke Clout just ahead of the Forkner/Lawrence battle.
Justin Cooper held on for the win ahead of Alex Martin and Hunter Lawrence in the end.

250SX Heat 2
Dylan Ferrandis snagged the holeshot in the second heat race and immediately fell in the second corner after Cameron Mcadoo came down the inside and put him on the ground in the second corner. That put Ferrandis at the back of the field and left him to charge forward just like Forkner in the first heat.
That left Derek Drake with the lead as Christian Craig and McAdoo settled in behind him. Craig was able to make the move around Drake for the lead as McAdoo then went to work on the Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull KTM man and got the move done as well.
Ferrandis, meanwhile, was charging forward and had made it up to eighth as he tried to match Forkner and earn a similar gate pick in the main event. Ferrandis was eventually able to make it up to seventh in the end which leaves him with either the 13th or 14th gate pick.
Craig held on for the win in the end bringing it home ahead of McAdoo and Drake.

450SX Heat 1
Chad Reed grabbed the holeshot in the first heat race but was quickly passed by Martin Davalos and Benny Bloss just a couple corners later. Adam Enticknap was charging early and even passed Chad Reed for third before Dean Wilson came through moved around them all to get into third.
Davalos began pulling away out front as the chaos began to ensue behind him. Justin Barcia made the move around Enticknap and then eventually got Reed for fourth as well. Justin Brayton was getting into the mix with Zach Osborne also trying to fight forward.
Enticknap was nearly passed by his teammate Kyle Cunningham for the final transfer spot but then he put Cunningham on the ground to hold the spot. Then Alex Ray was trying to charge forward and get Enticknap for the final spot.
Davalos slid out with the lead and handed it over to Bloss who had Wilson all over him. Wilson made the move on him but Bloss fought right back and made the move to the lead again. Then Wilson almost went down as Bloss crossed over in a rhythm section and Wilson almost retaliated with a hard inside move.
In the end, Bloss held on for the win over Wilson and Barcia.

It was Ken Roczen grabbing the early lead in the second heat as Malcolm Stewart settled in right behind him. Tomac was right there in third with Anderson and Webb right behind him as the heat race order was shuffled around due to some interesting qualifying results.
Roczen began opening up a small gap as Tomac went to work on Malcolm Stewart for second. Anderson and Webb behind them were swapping positions back and forth. Stewart started opening up a small gap before Tomac reeled him back and made the move.
Blake Baggett crashed out of the top 10 and would eventually ride back to the pits under his own power. Roczen took home the win away from Tomac and Malcolm Stewart in the end.

Geran Stapleton took the holeshot in the LCQ with Chase Felong and Lorenzo Camporese following him closely. Chris Howell moved into the final transfer spot early and eventually made the made the move on Felong to get into third.
Felong then had to deal with Cheyenne Harmon closing in and Harmon made the move to get into the final transfer spot right before the finish line jump. Then Logan Karnow moved into fifth and it became a battle of the teammates for the final transfer spot.
Karnow would make the move to get through into fourth leaving Harmon a few seconds back with some work to do if he wanted to catch back up. He wouldn’t make it happen in the end as Stapleton would hold on for the win out front leading home Camporese, Howell, and Karnow as they all headed to the main event.

Blake Baggett grabbed the holeshot in the LCQ away from Broc Tickle, Ryan Breece, and Deven Raper. Alex Ray slid out in the first corner and had Kyle Cunningham and Carlen Gardner down in the first corner with him.
Mason Kerr moved into the final transfer spot earlier ahead of Raper. Fredrik Noren was well down the order early in the running and was having to charge up to try to get into fourth. With a few laps left, he moved up to eighth but still had a long road ahead of him to get into the main.
Baggett held on for the win out front in a fairly smooth race in which he won by nine second away from Broc Tickle, Ryan Breece, and Mason Kerr in the end.

250SX Main Event
As the gate fell in the 250SX main event, it was Dylan Ferrandis grabbing the holeshot from Christian Craig and Hunter Lawrence in third. Austin Forkner was flying forward early and moved up to third as Lawrence made a bobble and dropped to fifth.
Forkner was eager to waste as little time as possible trying to go to the front as he was applying loads of pressure to Craig for second. Forkner made the move on Craig about four laps into the race and was about two second behind Ferrandis once the move was complete.
Michael Mosiman moved up into fifth around Hunter Lawrence as he was trying to keep tabs on the lead group with McAdoo right in front of him. Before long, Forkner was on Ferrandis for the lead of the race and the battle was on with a lot of the main event still remaining.
Christian Craig fell from third in the sweeper before the dragons back as he just lost his balance and dropped back to ninth. That allowed McAdoo to move into third with Mosiman now fourth and the Lawrence brothers battle for fifth as Jett made the move on Hunter in the whoops just a lap later.
Ferrandis established a small gap on Forkner where he had enough to manage and not worry about Forkner closing in for a pass behind him. Forkner was pushing the envelope and trying everything to reel in the Frenchman as the lapped traffic got heavier.
Suddenly, one bad run through the whoops for Ferrandis allowed Forkner to close right up on and made the pass for the lead with an aggressive move down the inside. The move pushed Ferrandis off the track and opened up a four second lead for Forkner out front with just a few minutes left in the race.
Michael Mosiman got around McAdoo for third and Jett Lawrence moved by Mcadoo as well. Then Lawrence started applying pressure to Mosiman and made the move but Mosiman got him right back with a move down the inside after the start straight.
Lawrence used a lapper as a pick and passed him for third before Mosiman tried to make a desperation pass back on him before the finish line jump. The move by Mosiman allowed McAdoo to get around him and get back into fourth as he tried to stick with Lawrence for third.
Austin Forkner held on for the win in the end to pull the points gap down to just seven points with one round remaining. Ferrandis brought it home second and Jett Lawrence earned his first career podium in third.
“The roles were reversed, I was behind this time,” said Forkner. “I was the chaser and he had all the pressure on him. I felt really good, honestly that race is one of the best races I’ve ever raced as far as supercross goes. My speed was good, I was really patient. it was easy to make mistakes, those two tight turns, they were glass. I waiting for an opening and it wasn’t much of an opening, I had to cut it really tight and make a pretty aggressive pass—he would have done the same thing, he’s done it to me. All is fair, it’s racing. This was a good race, I’m going to enjoy this week off, and one more race to go.“
“I can’t complain, I did worse before, I’m not one to judge if it was clean or not,” said Ferrandis. “I sucked. This race was bad for me. One reason is I double doubled, I saw the yellow flag, then I saw the [light] flash on, and I wasn’t sure. I didn’t know if I could jump or not. He closed the gap and made the pass. Yeah, wasn’t a good race for me."
“Once I went over the finish line, I can admit, I cried a little bit,” said Jett Lawrence. “All the time and work put into this—even a third. Would rather a win, but I have to be thankful I’m up here. I’m thankful I’m alive right now and able to experience.”

450SX Main Event
On the gate drop of the main event it was Cooper Webb with the early lead as Jason Anderson fell in the second turn while running second. That moved Ken Roczen into second with Zach Osborne in third.
Eli Tomac was clipped by Webb in the first turn and nearly fell but kept it on two wheels and moved up into the top five early in the race. Martin Davalos fell out of fourth early on as he crashed on the dragons back coming back onto the start straight.
Roczen made the move on Webb for the lead by the fifth lap of the race and was trying to set sail with a big lead at the front. Malcolm Stewart moved around Osborne for third as he was trying to open up a gap on Tomac. Tomac was quick to make the move on Osborne as well to keep pace with Stewart and try to close in on Webb and Roczen out front.
Tomac then made the move on Stewart and set sail on the guys ahead of him. Jason Anderson fell again when Vince Friese took out Benny Bloss and caught Anderson in the process. Justin Hill came to a complete stop as did Justin Barcia before Friese picked his bike up and caught Anderson’s forks into his rear wheel. They would all eventually continue on.
Around the halfway mark, Webb and Tomac started pulling some time back to Roczen out front as Tomac had closed to withing a few seconds of Webb ahead of him. Roczen seemed to regroup and open back up the gap as he was trying to manage a three second lead.
Osborne worked his way back around Stewart to get into fourth as they sat about 10 second back of Tomac for most of the second half of the race. Webb tried to put in a late race charge and had the gap down to below two seconds near the end but just fell short.
Ken Roczen claimed his fourth win of 2020 and moved back to second in the championship ahead of Cooper Webb who crossed the line second. Tomac would bring it home third to round out the podium.
“It’s a big big turnaround after the last few races, and that’s not easy to do,” said Roczen. “I just had fun, we got the bike dialed and my physical condition was a lot better today. Really gelled with the track out here today, and the bike. I’m so happy with the team, we got the bike so dialed.”
“I got a great start in the main, but Kenny was riding well,” said Webb. “I knew he was a little faster. So when he got by me I was just going to try to pace him, andI thought with his physical condition and stuff, I thought maybe he would fade halfway or something. I just kinda’ stayed in there, but he stayed strong to the end. I tried to put a charge on at the end, but the way the track was, it was hard to make those chunks. Got second tonight, straight up.”
“Overall it was a good race, I really felt in the groove until about half way, but then I started getting squirrely in the whoops," said Tomac. "I was missing out on the left side. At the end of the race I went over there and I felt like I could have been making up a lot of time in them, but early on I was good in them, but then I started losing time in them. Went into conservative mode there. I tried to make the push for, I don’t know, 10 minutes, but it wasn’t worth going too wild. We’ll be gunning for it Wednesday.”
