Ryan Villopoto is returning to Australia later this year to compete in the Monster Energy S-X Open International Supercross FIM Oceania Championship, which includes a return trip to Sydney’s AUS-X Open.
The four-time AMA Supercross Champion returns to the AUS-X Open for the first time since 2016, and he will also compete in the second round of the series in Auckland, New Zealand.
“When I heard about the new Triple Crown format, I was stoked,” Villopoto said in a statement. “For me, I think three rounds of ten laps will work to my advantage. The fans get to see us three times on the track and they get three gate drops, which I think is a huge deal. It was my first time down under in 2016, but this time heading to Sydney, I’m more prepared. It’s going to be fun to get back to Qudos Bank Arena. The fans and the atmosphere is like no other event in the world, and I can’t wait to be a part of it this November 10.”
RV will go head-to-head with Chad Reed, Justin Brayton, Justin Barcia, and current 450SX Champion Jason Anderson for the AUS-X Open crown. Reed and Brayton are both confirmed for the New Zealand event.
The AUS-X Open is set for November 10 in Sydney, with the Auckland event taking place on November 24.
