At Cowboys Stadium, Ryan Villopoto got back up on top by snagging a great start and steadily pulling away from the competition. The real battle was for second, as Chad Reed scrubbed under Davi Millsaps on lap one, but a few laps later, Millsaps got him back. Ryan Dungey was right there, and he made an aggressive pass on Reed to take over third. Late in the race, Dungey closed up on Millsaps fender, but couldn’t find time or a place to show him a wheel, putting the series points leader (Millsaps) into another solid second place. Reed was fourth and Justin Brayton was a solid fifth. Justin Barcia and Trey Canard had bad starts, Barcia closed in on Brayton and one point but couldn’t hold it and finished sixth. Canard was seventh, then came Matt Goerke, Andrew Short and Broc Tickle. James Stewart won a heat race over Villopoto, but the clutch in his bike broke on the starting line of the main event, and he was unable to race.
Millsaps points lead is now up to 21 on Dungey.
In 250 East, Dean Wilson was the favorite coming into the opener, and he definitely is leaving it, because he dominated the main event. Kyle Peters grabbed the holeshot, but Wilson quickly took the lead away and pulled a gap. Blake Wharton came through for second, while Wil Hahn worked his way up for a solid third. Lots of heart break in this class, as rookie Zach Bell crashed huge while leading his heat race, then qualified through the LCQ, but then crashed again and pulled off in the main. Fellow rookie Jeremy Martin was fast in practice but didn’t make the main after a bad start in the LCQ. And Canada’s Cole Thompson was making a bid for the podium, he passed Peters for third but then crashed hard, ending his race. Also, title contender Marvin Musquin went down in turn one, but he salvaged a seventh.
