With the aid of some of the best photographers in the business, 2008 FIM MX2 Motocross World Champion Tyla Rattray has splayed his exciting title-winning campaign across a page and the exploits, personal thoughts, feelings and emotions of the fifteen Grand Prix that led to the South African’s moment of destiny can now be enjoyed in ‘My Year’; recently published with a limited print run.
Now aiming to add the AMA Motocross 250 class crown to his trophy collection, Rattray took some time during his winter transition to the United States to record his memories – with all the dramatic swings and surprises that comprises the life and plight of a top-flight grand prix motorcycle racer – to text and also amounted a graphic selection of images that best illustrated his path to the championship.
The book is not only a visual feast of what makes motocross such a vivid and vibrant sport but the photos also shed insight into Rattray’s determination and style that saw him amass four victories and thirteen podiums from fifteen rounds. The accompanying diary entries reveal that 2008 wasn’t a plain-sail for the 23 year old. With a full set of results the publication acts also as a fair record of a term that saw a three-way dice for the title that was only decided at the final round. The joy of Rattray’s celebration in Faenza, Italy – with his then Red Bull KTM team - finally erasing three seasons of injury frustration.
With 125 bright, coloured and glossy pages and priced at approximately $24 retail (excluding post and packaging) ‘My Year’ is an affordable and excellent gift or memento for Tyla’s fans both young and old.
