Extreme Sports Dome Indoor Michigan Motocross

  • Extreme Sports Dome Indoor Michigan Motocross
It was perfect timing for the opening of the most anticipated indoor motocross facility around in Port Huron, Michigan as the Extreme Sports Dome opened the doors to the public for riding this past weekend, November 15th and 16th.

I drove there during the first snowfall of the winter and was greeted by the huge former golf dome located in the west parking lot of the Birchwood Mall.  I walked into the lobby and threw a revolving door.  The facility was definitely all the hype I had been anticipating.  There is a full concession, changing rooms, a local dealership, MCR Suspensions, R/C parts store and a ton of riders.  I talked to a couple of the guys behind the scenes at the dome Jon Finstrom and Carl McCulloch who were really happy with their opening weekend crowd.  The track is surrounded with a tall fence for the safety of the spectators and the pits.  Also sound pads have been lined around the dome walls to help with any noise issues.  There is an upstairs viewing deck that gives you sight of the entire track as well as a separate room upstairs only for riders who have purchased a season pass.  The track has 7 lanes that our 20 feet wide, is lined with tuff blocks with a full staff of flagers and unlike other indoor facilities has no pillars on the track.

Motocross is not the only thing going on in the dome, there is also a 60ft rock climbing wall and R/C car track.  With plenty going on at the dome 7 days a week, I strongly suggest getting out to the Extreme Sports Dome as soon as possible to ride, drive, climb or just be a spectator.  It’s conveniently located near major Michigan Interstates and is just minutes from Canada.  For more information call (586) 202-2459 or check out www.extremesportsdome.com.   Don’t let the winter weather rob you of seat time.
