Ryan Villopoto, who had a disappointing start to the season last week in Qatar, bounced back at Round 2 in Thailand. Villopoto won the qualifying race over Clement Desalle and Gautier Paulin. RV had the fastest time with a 1:36.216 over Desalle with a 1:38.121. Last week's winner Max Nagl finished fourth. Defending MXGP Champion Antonio Cairoli finished eighth.

In MX2, Jeffrey Herlings continued his hot start to the season. A week after winning the opener, Herlings won qualifying over teammate Pauls Jonass. Tim Gajser rounded out the podium. Defending MX2 Champion Jordi Tixier finished fifth. American Thomas Covington finished just outside the top ten in eleventh.
