at Steel City National!
Manlius, NY: The Legends & Heroes Tour is proud to announce that it will be honoring Michael Jones, aka “Mad Mike” Jones, at round 11 of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship in Delmont, PA this coming weekend. Mr. Jones was born February 28, 1966 in Pittsburgh, PA and just six short years later he started his motorcycle racing career. Often considered as "One of the founding fathers to the sport of Freestyle Motocross", he is an American freestyle motocross competitor, with over 35 years of professional rider experience under his belt.
In 1989, “Mad Mike” became the World Champion of Supercross. Nine years later, it was the sport of FMX that earned him another world title and in 2001, Mike was a Winter X Games Gold Medalist.
“We meet Mike earlier this year at the High Point National and found this guy to be a true champion. Many of us remember when Jones hit the road and raced the nationals. A frequent face mixing it up on the track at Steel City, Hi Point and then went to compete the World Supercross series. Mike came home with the World Supercross title in 1989” States Alex Moroz General Managing Partner of the Legends & Heroes Tour. “In 2001, Mike Jones was the first ever to win the Red Bull X-Fighters competition” Moroz concludes.
Today, Mike continues to ride the veteran class and does Freestyle exhibitions as well. He is married to his wife, Christine, of 25 years and has a twenty-two year old daughter, Brittany, who just graduated college. They both ride just for fun.
The Legends & Heroes of Motocross 2012 tour will honor Mr. Jones this Saturday during the opening ceremonies of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championships at Steel City. Mr. Jones will also be at the Legends & Heroes display at 3:00pm Saturday for a meet and greet with the fans.
