VIGO, SPAIN – After three rounds of competition, Metzeler rider Tadeusz Blazusiak (KTM) was declared World Cup Champion of the FIM (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme) Indoor Enduro World Cup Sunday in Vigo, Spain after winning all three finals.
Swede Joakim Ljunggren (Husaberg) placed second - besting Metzeler’s reigning champion and Enduro expert Iván Cervantes (KTM) of Spain by just one point.
Cervantes received overwhelming support from the Spanish crowd, but he was unable to prevent the Polish rider from clinching his first international title in Enduro. Blazusiak (KTM) recently gained recognition in this unique type of racing thanks to his solid racing history dating back to the European Trials title he won in 2004.
Almost 5000 spectators in the Vigo stadium witnessed the absolute command ‘Taddy’ (as Tadeusz Blazusiak is affectionately known) subjected his rivals: this was familiar, and something they had also experienced in Sheffield (UK) and Genoa (Italy), the two previous championship venues.
The Metzeler’s 6 DAYS EXTREME tire continues its winning streak in the Enduro world, and has proven itself a tire which lives for the Enduro environment. The knobby and durable product delivers maximum traction, lateral support and trajectory stability for a unique enduro racing style, considered to be the
The third season of the international indoor championship began in October, 2009 in Sheffield, UK. Blazusiak began his domination by winning all three finals in the presence of the 2008 champion David Knight (Kaw) and his rival - KTM rider Ivan Cervantes. Multi-time World Enduro and Trials champions such as Mika Ahola (Honda) and Dougie Lampkin (Beta) believe this season has been the most competitive since the start of the series.
Sunday’s action saw Blazusiak’s performance at its highest in the second heat when he held the lead from beginning to end. Cervantes had better control over the race, but could never overtake ‘Taddy’. Swedish rider Ljunggren was third, Graham Jarvis (Sherco) finished behind him, and Cristóbal Guerrero (Yamaha) reached an excellent fourth position in his first Indoor Enduro race of the season.
The third and final heat earned Blazusiak the title as he needed only to finish ahead of Iván. The Catalan rider finished just 2 seconds after the first-time champion. Gibert placed third in the final heat, and that was enough to make him fourth overall in the event. Ljunggren made a comeback from last to fourth in the final heat following a fall, which gave him a final second place in Vigo.
Metzeler pilot Blazusiak thus took home the Indoor World Cup title and rival Cervantes remains in the runner-up position in the provisional classification of the championship. Ljunggren’s (Husaberg) second-place finish in this race offers him a shot at vice-champion, although Iván will surely make this difficult in front of his home crowd on in Barcelona (Spain) on Sunday the 31st of January. Metzeler has claimed all three classes of the World Enduro Championship for 2009 and maintains its command over the Indoor World Cup for the third consecutive year.
