CARLSBAD, Calif., (Jan. 15, 2007) – Unbound Energy’s Chad Reed (San Manuel/Yamaha) made his fourth-consecutive Amp’d Mobile AMA/Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP podium this past weekend despite battling a nagging shoulder injury that has him racing in constant pain.
Reed, who was the subject of a well-done Amp’d Mobile rider profile this past Sunday on CBS Sports, gutted it out in the first heat race qualifier to make the premier AMA Supercross class main event, finishing 5th in a race that also featured overall series points leader and eventual race winner James Stewart.
In the main Reed got out of the start well and worked his way into third place at the end of the first lap. The Australian transplant then battled hard to keep the leaders in sight (Stewart and Ricky Carmichael), both of whom were setting a frantic pace up front.
“I pretty much knew I wasn’t going to be able to catch Bubba and Ricky, but there was still a bunch of other great riders I had to deal with behind me,” said Reed. “So I did my best to keep the guys up front in sight, which was good enough to keep me on pace to finish on the podium with them. Overall it was a pretty good race for me, felt a bit stronger than I did last week in Anaheim.”
Also running well for Unbound Energy in the premier AMA Supercross class was Nathan Ramsey. Ramsey, who missed out on the main event at Anaheim 1, came back in a big way in the second heat race, finishing 5th overall. In the main Ramsey battled hard to make the top ten, but came up just a bit short – finishing 11th overall.
As it stands after two rounds of the Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series, Reed is in third place overall, just ten points out of first while Ramsey moved all the way up to 15th overall with ten points.
Unbound Energy-backed Reed and Ramsey return to action this weekend (Jan. 20th) for the second installment of the Anaheim Stadium trilogy, Round Three of the 2007 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series.
