Not on live, and the replay is split between 2 different channels the NEXT DAY. This is the only sport where that happens.

Thank you to supercrossonline for the live qualifying sessions.

It's awesome to have a TV package so good that we have multiple live broadcasts per season, however when it's not live we have nothing. Not even radio or webcast or anything. It's crazy that in this era of unprecedented technology and media we have no way to follow the races. Twitter's all we got, and twitter sucks sh*t.

I think the250 class on SPEED gets pushed 3 hours (5 EST ?) due to the closing coverage of the 'Rolex 24 at Daytona' endurance sports car race.

Last week our mountain time listings showed both the 250s and 450s airing at the same time on different channels. We set the DVR for one and watched the other. We went back to watch the 250s, and SPEED had changed the flipping time of the broadcast. We got three seconds congratulating Eli Tomac on the win. Not only did we not get to watch it, but they blew the results for us. This setup is lame. Our DVR indicated we had recorded the 250s. I can't imagine the CBS deal is worth enough to justify the negative impact on fans. The only show a highlight package. They could certainly do that in addition to a live broadcast for those of us who want to see the entire event.

LastBikeRM250 wrote: 4:41pm January 25, 2013

Yeah, last week it seems all the cable guides were wrong for the 250 time slot, but the info on the "How to Watch" page was correct. Better be safe this week and set a manual recording for 1 pm ET if your guide shows it as different.

@muehterc - you are right on, I posted something about this in the previous article. I live in Austin and have AT&T Uverse, and the CBS timeslot indicates some 700 Club event, followed by college basketball. No 450s.

AND this should concern all who plan on watching the 450s on CBS ... if you go directly to the CBS sports website and look at upcoming broadcasts, they are ONLY showing a 30 MINUTE supercross show on Sunday, not an hour. As a fan this is incredibly frusturating. I don't mind paying extra to get Speed (the only reason I have that is for SX / MX), Fuel, CBS, or whoever, but when I DO pay I expect to get to see what had previously been advertised on the schedule. Like the rest of you I much prefer a nice simple live broadcast on Speed.

Some may not be happy with the CSB coverage, but at least they air the broadcast when they say they are. The programmers at Speed Channel need to pull their heads out. This isn't the first time that they mis-labeled the broadcasts, the same thing happened last year. On Sunday a truck race was labeled as the 250 SX race, so anyone who set their DVR to record the 250 race missed it.

Profile Picture
klrman1 wrote: 5:30pm January 25, 2013

Many of us, myself included, are never happy when it's not live, but that's the way it is in our sport. Think about it for a minute.....3 teams are gone this season already, two now and one at the end of the SX season. For some reason, SX and MX has a hard time attracting sponsors. I think Reed was right a few years ago when he mentioned that our sport has a very very long way to go in this regard. It looks like it will never be mainstream, so we should be happy that we are getting any coverage at all.

I heard that this year the SX contract expires with Speed, so next season we may not get any coverage at all so be happy with what we got right now and hope that it continues.

Not being live isn't a big deal to me, at least I get to see it (maybe).

What I hate is how CBS CUTS OUT 450 MAIN LAPS!!!! WTF?!? CBS can play it and I don't care, but how can you cut laps on a recorded event??

Profile Picture
MotoXscript wrote: 7:11pm January 25, 2013

I don't recall CBS doing a live [Saturday night] broadcast... just the Sunday morning taped version. They cut laps out when they change camera angles [and/or go to commercial] and then edit the video and the announcer's commentary around the remaining part of the race we see on the Sunday morning broadcast. It sucks, but it is what it is. At least we get to see most of the race.

Supercross' television package is a mess. We either get heavily clipped, next day CBS coverage or monotonous, commercial bloated live SPEED coverage. The live coverage would be better if they returned to the two heat, two semi and one LCQ format. Fewer people advance through each race, but there is more racing. More racing would equal less Ralph, Jeff and Ricky trying to think up fun facts and witty remarks and less stupid twitter pics of morons watching television on their bikes while wearing riding gear.

Profile Picture
jbomx363 wrote: 10:23pm January 25, 2013

We also show speed airing the 250's at 5pm eastern time. Wake up RacerX and check with Speed to get the correct information out please. As far as CBS goes. It is what it is. And the standard answer is that it gets more exposure on network TV.

Profile Picture
ramair350 wrote: 11:15pm January 25, 2013

All, sorry to repeat, but the CBS 450 coverage is ONLY 30 mins according to CBS:

http://www.cbssports.com/cbssports/schedules/page/spectaculars

If you thought the hour long show was trimmed, wait till you see a 30 min version. Fortunately the CBS broadcasts after Oakland go back to the hour format.

Profile Picture
JGrif wrote: 12:31am January 26, 2013

MX40 I totally agree. Bring back 450 Semis. More racing = better show. Better show = better ratings and attendance.

We now get 73 laps of racing for the complete night. Laps range from 48-55 seconds for 60-70 minutes of racing. Two more 6 lap semis add 20% more racing, two winners and more drama. Stars work to get top 4 in a heat and inevitably top talent ends up in a semi. Fans get 12 more quality minutes of racing.

Yes, the show can still fit in a 3 hour time slot.

Want more teams and sponsors? Improve the product. The main show is racing, not pyro, t-shirt cannons, videos, girls, etc. They aren't bad, but focus on #1.

At least, switch to timed mains such as 20 min. +2 laps for a 450 main. Fans see racing. Fast guys can recover from bad starts. Ttrack designers have more flexibility for tamer tracks and maybe less injuries.

I agree CBS sucks.
I think most would be happy watching it on the Internet if we could. But my hope is Speed and ONLY Speed covers SX and MX after this year.

I could also be up for having some races earlier in the day so East coast viewer numbers would be higher on the live air times. I am on the west coast but mover views = better coverage.

Another problem is both the SX and MX seem to have different names (TV Listings) depending on the channel and Sponsor at the time making it hard to set the DVR to record all the races. They need to come up with a name and ALL channels stick to it.

Another problem when they blow us viewers off and change the air time they should at least re-air the race to make up for there mistake.

Lucas Oil Off Road Racing seems to get all kinds of air time and yet I don't think it has 1/10 the fans. Maybe we just need Lucas Oil to Sponsor SX.

Alot of complaining about CBS--it looks to me they are giving more respect to the supercross fans than SPEED is.. Speed has moved the 250 broadcast again for car racing..At least CBS is showing it the same time every week so people can actually follow it.. SPEED sucks in my opinion.

@tailwhip, my schedule is the same, except east coast times /// 12:00 EST on CBS for 450's and at 5:00 for the 250's on Speed..

Everyone: IF YOU MISS EITHER OF THE RACES, THEY WILL BE ON YOUTUBE IN A COUPLE DAYS AFTER THE RACE!!!

First off in this article, and several other How to Watch _rd.? Anyone cutting down CBS's (or any) coverage of Supercross, Please layoff! We need to welcome any, and all major network(s) to our sport. We need the $ to exist at the current level of support our riders have come to expect. Our sport on the professional side is in trouble. The budgets of some of the current race teams cannot continue to escalate year after year, without TV and outside sponsorship. I beleive the current levels of $ support by teams are at cost that cannot, and will not continue. It just does not make economic sense. For the good of our sport, please support the major networks, and any sponsors spending money in our sport.

@LCB24 - As others have said, CBS Sucks. There is no need to elaborate. Frankly, on the weeks were there isn't a live broadcast, I'd rather have nothing. We do NOT need bad sponsors or bad broadcasters. That is simply lowering our standards. Sometimes you have to have some principles and stand up for things you believe in. No one is talking about team spending here. That's a whole different topic. We're talking about a single week of TV coverage in this season.

@Superfan, I apologize, there is generation gap here I have forgotten about. I come from an era where the only televised race was the 500cc USGP on ABC Wide World of Sports. It was usually aired in Jan. or Feb. from a telecast filmed in June of the previous Year. None of the Supercross races were televised until the mid to late 80's, none of which were Live broadcasts. I waited by the mailbox for my issue of Cycle News which came 8-9 days following an event to get race results.
Back in the day, the motorcycle manufacture's relied on motorcycle sales to fund their race teams and rider support. The 70's motocross boom was the revenue.
You need to understand today's racing is no different, it is also dependent on money $, plain and simple. The manfactures have stepped back, nearly eliminating all support, due to the fall off of motorcycle sales. Today, The biggest money comes from TV rights, which other sponsors use as an avenue to advertise their product(s).
I apologize again for this long post, and further elaboration.
I too, want a Live, indept broadcast all the time, hopefully it will come, in the meantime, I cannot wait until tomorrow's taped broadcast.

The problem is in our own industry and the people in charge. They do not know how to use the fact Supercross out draws some NFL teams and parlay that leverage into live coverage. If Motocross racing gets too big then these under achievers will be out. How does a stupid spelling Bee get live coverage when no one has ever bought a ticket or paid sponsor money for that. GET Fing real and do the job right or watch your industry go under. It seems Europe has not trouble getting TV coverage for their races. I am sick of the coverage and only watch the live events on Speed when I have nothing else planned. I use the timing that way I can follow my favorite rider each lap instead of watching a battle for 13th place.
