TwoTwo Motorsports Bel-Ray Racing's Chad Reed backed up his opening round win at Hangtown with yet another impressive performace at Freestone going 1-1 for the overall. Reed was garnered with some luck in the form of Ryan Dungey's fuel taking a boil bath in the Texas sun, and capitalized with his second consecutive victory. Note, though, that Villopoto is still showing the speed to match the Reed/Dungey train up front, as he logged the fastest lap of the first moto while coming back from a bad start.
Lucas Oil/Troy Lee Design Hondas Christian Craig continues to impress in his first full season in the 450 class. After grabbing the holeshot in moto 1, Craig failed to break under the pressure of season veterans Reed and Dungey, holding off the duo for some time before eventually falling to fifth. Craig backed up his surprising first moto with a eighth in moto 2, securing seventh overall on the day.

Craig was impressive at Freestone.

Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki's Tyla Rattray proved he is going to be a force throughout the series with his performance at Freestone. Rattray set the fastest lap in the first moto en route to a second place finish. Rattray then stalked down GEICO Hondas Justin Barcia in the second moto to secure the overall on the day.
Kilbarger Racing's Nico Izzi is beginning to regain his form after two injury-riddled seasons. Izzi finished an impressive sixth in moto one and was running in the top three in moto two before having to pull off. Izzi only managed a 15th overall finish, but he showed flashes of what made him a hot prospect coming out of the amateur ranks.

Rattray is going to be a force this season.

interesting how moto 2 had faster times in both classes...
Where are the times for the Women's MX? I am interested to see how they compare, I can't watch the races live and see them race, would like to see some sort of stats on their moto's. When are they going to race a full schedule? They don't race at the closest National to me.... Milleville, would like to watch them race.
Can't wait to see Reed, Dungey, and Villipoto go at it this year! Great racing, too bad Canard is not in it too.
@Women MX
Times for all riders in all sessions can be found on alli sports.

J. Patterson's fastest lap in the second moto was a 2:25 on lap 2 and finished with a 2:32
Nico Izzi - the greatest under-achiever this sport has seen since Bubba.
Poto with an early fastest lap in moto 1 and just riding around in moto 2? Yeah, definetely not the bike at all. Once RV gets his health in check, we'll have a three way battle. But I don't get it, Alden made RC ripped thru his career, but he's doing the complete opposite with RV. I say more weights, more riding, and less cycling! get him back to his 2010 shape.
i can understand what RV is going through. being from the beautiful deep south i know how the flu can knock you for a loop in the warmer months. he probably needs a week of just sittin on the couch but that ain't gonna happen. it's good they are going to high point next to get a break from the heat and humidity. this will pass and he will be back in top form. it's nice to know the speed is there, even though i am a Big Red fan to the core. the more fast riders in the mix, the better, i say. TC will be fun to watch too. i hear js will be back soon as well. i just see ithe season getting better as we go. i look forward to seeing a Honda rider win the title again.
Acejas - Dually noted, something looks wrong....RV had a little extra chub on him last year before the injury and going into SX he looked a lot leaner, yet still had some muscle tone it seemed....Now he looks like a runner and really thin...I am assuming that his illness caused him to drop weight because looking back at Salt Lake City, he looked in better shape than now.....I am sure Aldon knows what to do....so hopefully they cure it quick...
Seems Kyle Cunningham with a 2:10.690 is faster than Dean Wilsons 2:10.795 in Moto 1, so Kyle Cunningham should be listed as 2nd fastest and Wilson as 3rd. fastest.
I was at the Freestone race and unfortunately Villo looked unimpressive at best.
I watched Kyle Chisolm go off the track into the fence and tree, and I was right at the very spot in moto 2 when Dungeys bike failed. That really sucked. At the time nobody knew what failed.
i like jeff emig but what's a huckabuck?
Reed said it was more than just fuel taking a boil bath in RD's bike. Come on what the whole story here??
.
RV has the speed just needs to get healthy I hope.
dunge has been so fast. dont count him out just because of this DNF. The way this season's been they'res many more mechanical malfunctions for all brands or bikes, factory or privateer. Styla is becoming so much like reed. Not always the fastest, but his overall lap times are pretty on spot to his fastest lap times. Consistancy is something i never had in motocross, too much stuff happening, lines changing, downed riders. Tyla and Dean are gonna be battling like Villopoto/Townley 07. I'm a poto fan but have a felling it wont take but a couple more moto's and Dunge will be right back in it. Reed has the confidence right now that RC always said not to give to him. Both classes are a pure pitbull fight. I believe Poto will step up, Pourcel will have flashes of brilliance. Something happened to milsaps, he's so dedicated now. Like his ol' 125 days. guys like Hahn or Craig could step up and win moto's with good starts. same as guys like Durham, Lemoine, Davalos can also step up and do damage in their class too.
I see Tyla winning this title for sure this year, he is just super consistent and has more than enough speed to run up top, patience to wait for these young guns to bust there ass than cruise to victory!
Tyla gets one win in and suddenly he's the one to beat? Yeah, we'll see. Wilson and Bagget are both faster than him. If history tells us anything, it's that mx champions are also fast in supercross. That doesn't sound like Tyla.
let's see: top 3 riders mx2 nationals 2010.
How many of them are still in mx2 this year ?
Seeing what he does so far in 2011 makes him a title contender in my opinion
Hell yeah Tyla's the one to beat, has proven himself outdoors both in gps and nationals.
Name one rider that won a championship outdoors and is only average indoors and I'll gladly change my opinion.
Wow, andrew shorts best time was 4 seconds slower than the fastest 250 rider, and would place 11th fastest in the 250 class. Thats gotta be depressing for him to see. i dont know man, first alessi with the 350 going downhill, is short next?, At least with the honda he would be up there top 5 every time.
wait my mistake, make that 5 seconds slower! wow
course TYLA should be a title threat how many more years exp has he got .my veiw he should be up with the men ,bit more age certainly helps at places like freestone,boys to men ride 250s Men ride 450s if your a true pro
Reed's fastest lap in moto one was on lap 13? In that heat, that is impressive.
STEWART RULES
Acejas: Steve Lamson
.........greg albertyn
@stevanopolis
Stewart rules? 4th in SX? "not ready" for outdoors? He has a tv commitment this summer. The only way you will see him race outdoors is if it fits the story line! He has to give up the "Fastest Man On The Planet" title. Stewart doesn't rule....Stewart is a sad story of a good racer who has lost his way.
@Stevonopolis,
You seem to be confused, lil'Stew having the lowest IQ is not a good thing. Unlike lap times, it is more desirable to have a high number for IQ.
So when it is said that lil'Stew is the only rider to break in to the double digits with his below 100 IQ, that is not positive at all.
Speaking of Andrew Short, wasn't he lil'Stew's main competitor on his road to his only MX title on a big bike. Using Short as a point of reference we can see much more competitive this year than 2008.
It will be interesting if lil'Stew never wins another MX race after having a perfect session.
"Acejas" Greg Albertyn and Grant Langston both won outdoor-champisonships, and as far as supercross, I would call them average. And in my eyes Tyla is exactly the same type of rider, from the same country even. I would bet on him to, to take the title, not saying that the other guys are'nt amazing.
"Huckabuck" is when you climb on James Stewart's back and ride him like he's a motorcycle, and he hucks a big jump. Huck a buck. Get it?
@ really and the @funny mandarin icon (or whatever it is) you fools took the bait that stevanopolis put out and now your in the boat on the way to get cooked. Darwins Natural Selection...read it.
Speaking of below 100 IQ...
@Hammerhead251...Ah you got me there with Steve haha. Ok opinion changed. He's a threat but not the one to beat.
@Mx Donkey, Greg Alberton won a supercross.
@Thomas L, CoolG, really? TWO time east/west regional supercross champ only average at supercross? Yeah, keep thinking that.
@Stupid aquatic life need apply...
How does one read "Darwins Natural Selection"? Natural selection is the theorized mechanism by which living entities evolve. If you are referring to Darwin's book "On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life", ... at least demonstrate that your capable of reading the title idiot.
"You seem to be confused, lil'Stew having the lowest IQ is not a good thing."
I think you're the one who's confused, 白龙. I don't know about you, but when Stevonopolis said "STEWART RULES," I immediately inferred that he was talking about James's ability on a dirt bike and not his intellectual prowess. This is a motocross website, after all.
Perhaps you'd find yourself more welcome in a community of fellow elitists: http://www.mensa.org/
If they have a message board, you can spend your time there instead. Fingers crossed!
@ acejas
albertyn had a few years of highlight reel crashes before getting a win, was never in contention for a super x title. was always a threat outdoors

Acejas: Stefan Everts
Funny to see that no one yet has noted that in moto 2, Dungey and Reed's best laps was a whopping 4 seconds faster than the rest of the field...
