TGO: Man the Machine
TGO: Man the Machine is a story told in two parts. It covers the men, their families, and their teams throughout the 2010 Outdoor National season. Part 1 focuses on the who’s who of American Motocross’ premier class, the 450’s.
The 2009 Champion Chad Reed has gone through many changes personally and professionally this season. When you are on top of the world there is only one way to go, Chad is challenged in 2010 to stay on top.
Mike Alessi has had a target on his back since he could walk. His father Tony has guided him into being a title contender. But there is one problem... Mike has yet to capture a championship. Now, Mike makes his own decisions and runs his own program. His results this year may reinforce to everyone that if Mike wants to win he might need his father back administering order.
Ryan Dungey was the 250 National Champion last year. The kid from Minnesota is simply on a roll. Since his 250 Championship, he and his Factory Suzuki have won both the 2009 MXoN and the 2010 450 SX Championship. Ryan continues on through the 2010 Outdoor season as a seemingly unstoppable force.
The rest of the cast consists of the family man Andrew Short... bad boy Josh Grant... Kiwi journeyman Ben Townley... and rookie to the 450 class, Aussie Brett Metcalfe. These 4 racers battle all season long to maintain their reputation and keep their careers intact.
Part 2 focuses on the young guns, the 250 class. For decades the team to beat has been Pro Circuit. They have more titles than any other team in the 250 class. This year’s cast includes 250 SX champ and French enigma Christophe Pourcel, who barely missed the Outdoor title last season. Another threat for the #1 plate is South African and 2008 World Champion Tyla Rattray. The other 2 pilots are 250 SX Champion Jake Weimer, and the new kid, Dean Wilson, the Scottish sensation.
Geico Powersports has been gunning for Pro Circuit’s top spot for the last few years. The team hired legendary racer Mike Larocco to manage the squad. The four man team consists of the eccentric Blake Wharton, sophomore wild child Justin Barcia, the injury plagued Trey Canard, and the prodigy son of Mountain Bike icon John Tomac, Eli Tomac. It’s the green bikes vs. the red bikes for 250-class dominance.
