Barriers

Like pretty much everything in moto, barriers at the edge of racetracks have evolved steadily over the years. Early “scrambles” races didn’t have much in the way of guardrails to keep riders on the track, other than the actual trees, wooden fences, and building structures that circuits wove through. That began to change in the ’60s with the introduction of haybales, which promoters would tie to structures alongside the track. Used mattresses were also used to wrap trees in some cases.
