For our 2024 KTM 112cc Big Wheel Garage Build, we teamed up with Randy at RJR Motorsports which is local to Southern California, a High Desert moto shop that specializes in all things mini bikes. Since we don’t do a lot of small bike features I thought this would be a great build to do since Loretta’s time is here. I was intrigued to see how much power can be pulled out of this current crop of 85cc bikes, and since I have recently had some time on a stock blue one, why not see what a full-blown supermini can do. The process starts with removing the engine, followed by complete disassembly. The engine cases are vapor blasted and cleaned, then case matched/flowed to the new OEM KTM 105 cylinder. The internal engine parts were REM polished by Sano Metal Finishing for less drag as well as heat dissipation. RJR used a +3.5mm stroker crankshaft from CrankWorks that was balanced and trued. The cylinder is ported and polished with the port timing deck height set to RJR specs. After all of this is said and done, the once KTM 85SX is now a full 112cc supermini spec. The engine is reassembled with a cerakote scheme, custom piston, Rekluse clutch, Bills custom cone pipe with carbon MX2 silencer, GET ignition, and finally a VForce4R reed cage. After all of this, our test rider, Ries Seeba, was frothing at the mouth to get on his new race bike.
