Reason For Being
Over the years, I’ve been lucky enough to see a lot of memorable races. Growing up in the racing business, then becoming a part of it as a race reporter and now a series manager, I’ve had the chance to be trackside for some historic motos and main events, including the 2003 Budds Creek National. That’s the day James Stewart unleashed his scrub on the motocross world, changing the game completely. (It’s featured in this magazine beginning on page 60.) I remember being down on the infield, watching him go up and away on Henry Hill, pitching the bike flat, and disappearing over the top. I remember thinking, Wow, Bubba just busted his ass! Obviously—thankfully—I was wrong. What I had witnessed was history in the making.
