Sunset Ridge MX // Walnut, IL // sunsetridgemx.com
Bob Pistole grew up on a farm Southwest of Walnut, Illinois. The family farm had an adjacent 75 acres of pastureland with natural terrain and rolling hills. It was the perfect spot for riding dirt bikes. In the early 1990s, Bob would gather with friends and his boys, Josh and Chad, to ride their dirt bikes on the manmade “track” in the pasture. By the late 1990s, Bob’s dream was to have a house on the hill with a dirt bike racetrack in the backyard. His dream soon became a reality. Sunset Ridge MX was planned and named by riding buddies who would sit along the road to watch the sunset, stating, “We don’t get to see that in the city.”
Over the past 22 years, Sunset Ridge MX has played host to hundreds of riding and racing events. National amateur qualifiers and Pro ATVMX races every year have brought thousands of people to the town of Walnut. It’s like a whole other town in the middle of the countryside with its own concessions, a country store, and even an ambulance service to care for any of the many customers. The Pistoles thrive on their motto of providing a safe, fun family atmosphere for all who visit this little piece of racing heaven.
