Lommel, Belgium, is the epicenter of the MXGP world. Located just a stone’s throw from the Dutch border, the legendary sand found here represents all-too-familiar confines for most of the Grand Prix paddock. Lommel’s lore is multi-faceted, too. It is the toughest racetrack to tame and most of the race teams are located within a kilometer of the entrance. Yes, less than a mile. Its timing on the calendar (late July), coupled with attendance by industry decision makers, make Lommel the Anaheim 1 of the GP campaign. What would otherwise be an unforgiving sand track located in an unsuspecting Belgian industrial park has morphed into the Grand Prix place to be.
