ANAHEIM  The Big A once again delivered—and not just down on the racetrack. Two complete sell-outs helped launch the season, augmented by a nice assist from Snapdragon Stadium, the new San Diego venue. Those three Golden State successes help offset the rain-postponed Oakland race in mid-January. (And credit to Dirt Wurx for salvaging the tracks we did see in January after all that rain.)

PRO CIRCUIT  The injury bug has bitten down hard on Mitch Payton’s team in 2023, as Austin Forkner, Jo Shimoda, Seth Hammaker, Jett Reynolds, and even SX Futures prospect Ryder DiFrancesco have all been out with injuries—and Cameron McAdoo smashed his arm in practice at Anaheim 2 and almost joined his teammates on the sidelines. Chris Blose and Carson Mumford have joined the beleaguered team as SX replacements.

HUSQVARNA  The Husky boys did not get off to a very good start in ’23 Monster Energy Supercross, as Malcolm Stewart, Christian Craig, and RJ Hampshire all struggled with crashes and injuries over the first three weeks. Even worse was the team’s 250SX East Region entry, Jalek Swoll, whose season was over before it started. Hampshire’s two runner-up rides were the only bright spots for the white bikes in January.
