Yamaha keeps developing minibikes for the future of our sport, and we recently had a chance to test them with little ripper Grayson Townsend. The YZ85 got updates to the chassis, rider triangle, air intake, and rear master cylinder, as well as those bold new graphics. Yamaha also created the YZ85LW (Long Wheel) for kids who need something in between a YZ85 and a YZ125. The YZ85LW comes with a longer swingarm/wheelbase as well as larger-diameter wheels (19” front/16” rear) to help the growing rider get more confidence before hopping onto a full sized YZ125 machine. The Yamaha YZ85 and 85LW are fun bikes that can handle the rigors of racing or a chill track day with the family. With fully adjustable KYB inverted cartridge fork that features low-friction outer tubes, external compression, and rebound damping adjustability, paired with a race-proven fully adjustable KYB rear shock, it’s just like having a miniature Star Racing Yamaha two-stroke.
