Reason For Being
When the 2021 Monster Energy AMA Supercross schedule was announced, there was some initial confusion over which 250SX races should be in the East Region and which should be in the West. That’s because coronavirus restrictions and closures made racing on the actual West Coast—the cradle of supercross—an impossibility in 2021. But how can Daytona be in the West Region? And how can Orlando be East one weekend and West the next? Fortunately, the teams, the AMA, and series organizer Feld Entertainment were willing to work together to make the two regions balanced and fair, and so far it’s been a very entertaining series. And while it may be a little confusing, 2021 was nowhere near as confusing as 1985—the first year this regional class was added to AMA Supercross.
