Team Australia’s win at the 2024 FIM Motocross of Nations was a victory 40 years in the making.
Kyle Webster had one job. The 28-year-old from Korumburra, Australia, was the third member of his country’s 2024 Motocross of Nations team. On the biggest stage in the moto world, aboard a Honda CRF250R that was on loan from Honda HRC, Webster was tasked with getting just one good finish in the MX2 class. His two teammates—Jett and Hunter Lawrence—would do the rest, as each nation’s five best finishes out of six would count towards the final tally. So when the time came for the first moto at the Matterley Basin circuit in Winchester, England, Kyle Webster stepped up big, finishing 11th out in the combined MX2/MXGP field. More importantly, he was second in his class, six spots ahead of the American MX2 entrant, Cooper Webb. It was the finish the Australians needed most to win the MXoN for the first time, and at the end of that rainy day Webster and the brothers Lawrence proudly stood at the center of the podium. It was a moment 40 years in the making.
