What a difference a year makes. Last year Cooper Webb made for an easy 2022 title pick when we shot our Monster Energy Racer X Season Preview shows. He controlled the 2021 Monster Energy Supercross Championship, and his prime competitors looked like their best days were behind them. Webb had Ken Roczen’s number in supercross, and Eli Tomac wasn’t as good in ’21 as he was in ’20. Webb was younger than both, and for good measure he made sure to shut down the next generation. He didn’t need to win the final 450SX race of 2021, but he caught and passed Chase Sexton at the finale in Salt Lake City, just to make sure the young Honda rider didn’t get any momentum. For ’22, Webb came armed with a new Red Bull KTM and promises he’d be even better on it, especially in the whoops—his Achilles’ heel.
