BACK ON BLUE
For the first time since James Stewart wore #1 (briefly) in 2010, the AMA 450 Supercross #1 plate is back on a Yamaha as Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Eli Tomac begins his title defense. Tomac is the seventh Yamaha rider to win this championship, joining Pierre Karsmakers (1974), Bob Hannah (’77–’79), Mike Bell (’80), Jeremy McGrath (’98–’00), Chad Reed (’04 and ’08), and Stewart in an exclusive club. Having won his first SX title on a Kawasaki back in 2020, Eli is also one of only five riders to win this championship on two different brands. The other members of that club are McGrath (Honda and Yamaha), Carmichael (Kawasaki, Honda, and Suzuki), Stewart (Kawasaki and Yamaha), and Ryan Dungey (Suzuki and KTM).
