The field looks loaded, but the stats show that three riders have dominated Monster Energy AMA Supercross for the last three years. Can someone new break through in 2022?

Eighty-four. That’s the percentage of race wins taken in the last three seasons of Monster Energy AMA Supercross by just three riders: Cooper Webb, Eli Tomac, and Ken Roczen. These men locked up the top three spots in points in each of those seasons, and only four other riders have even won races in this span: Justin Barcia has won three—the last three season openers—Blake Baggett won round two of 2019, and Zach Osborne won the 2020 finale. But opening and closing rounds are often unusual. Nerves impact the field disproportionately at the first few races, and champions often ride conservatively for points at the final rounds. Only one rider has managed to score a win in the middle of the season against the Webb/Tomac/Roczen trio, and that’s Marvin Musquin, who won rounds 11 and 12 in 2019, along with round 16 last year. That’s it. Tomac, Webb, and Roczen have won every other race during this time.
Every year starts with talk of #deepfield. The numbers say otherwise. What about 2022?
