At Daytona, the oldest and most prestigious round of Monster Energy Supercross, Eli Tomac is the ultimate Bike Week survivor
WORDS: DAVEy COOMBS
If you’ve ever been to Bike Week at Daytona Beach, which has been happening for 90 years now, you probably know that it’s not really one big cluster of motorcyclists celebrating spring, but rather a whole bunch of different gatherings. Where you go and what you do depends on what kind of bike you bring. There’s a place for sport bikes and scramblers, custom bikes and choppers, and even a strong showing of outsized men and women on those little groms. There are also those inside Daytona International Speedway, where most of the racing takes place, and those outside of it, the ones there to just cruise around town and hang out on Main Street. All are surrounded by what one visitor’s guide calls “spirited activities,” which is PR-speak for all of the rowdiness that accompanies the week, like biker parties, coleslaw wrestling, the ball of death, etc. It’s a great week but also a tough one to survive.
