For the first time ever, five very fast and capable women represented the United States at the prestigious FIM Oceania Women’s Motocross Cup in Australia.

In March, my home country of Australia hosted the FIM Oceania Women’s Motocross Cup at Wonthaggi, a track located southeast of Melbourne, not far from the famous Phillip Island road racing circuit on the Bass Coast, where the Southern Ocean squeezes between Victoria and Tasmania. I was privileged to pinch-hit for Racer X and report on the event and the fortunes of the AMA’s women’s motocross team, composed of team captain Kyleigh Stallings, current U.S. WMX Champion Lachlan Turner, Jordan Jarvis, Jamie Astudillo, and Mikayla Nielsen. Also competing were Team Australia and Team New Zealand, plus a Team FIM Africa, which was made up of riders from various countries—young women from all over the world, inspiring future generations of moto girls.
