Reason For Being
On the cover of this issue is an excellent photograph of the moment of contact between Honda HRC’s Hunter Lawrence and Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Nate Thrasher in the Daytona 250SX main event. Shot by Align Media’s Adam Merrow (his first cover), it’s a classic block pass—in my opinion, a throwback to the less polished “rubbing is racing” days of yesteryear. You know, when men were men, motocross was a contact sport, Hannah and Howerton hated each other, and all that. No matter, we’ll almost certainly be getting some angry letters about how we’re “promoting violence and dangerous riding” and so on. Hunter did get some grief afterward, but Thrasher left the door wide open and Hunter shoved his way past. He wasn’t fined or anything by the AMA, but he did win the race, and he got a cover out of it.
People who would actually
know saw it differently.
